Well we fished from 6:30pm to 8:30 am.

Nothing to brag about. But we caught brook and brown trout. Best brown was about 20inch mark. And only Brookie was 13inches. Ended up with 3 walleye only vBulletin one keeper. 4 crappie a few nice blue gill. One drum, 3 spots and two gar.

man, you are tough neighbor!! you fished for 14 hrs at night, man I don't think I could do that anymore!, but sounds like it was still worth it, specially with the brown trout!, congrats!

Oh and I was unaware they are no longer running the sluice at 250cfs. And man the water was freaking low.

They should be starting the 250 cfs anytime now. I hope anyways. Nice fish!

What?

They mandated a 250 min flow a couple years ago and why the whole sluice gate was a big deal to limit de-watering/oxygen. It "should" be putting 250 in the river all the time regardless of time of year. In the summer they used to pulse it with the 1250 from the gate. Has all this changed?

Sorry if this reads a little angry as I am (not at you Mike :)) . That is going backwards for the river not forward.

They haven't had the 250 cfs coming through the sluice since last fall. Not sure why. But I did a low water float last weekend and there is little to no current. Last spring they didn't have it running either, but started late may.

This is taken from their report last fall:
"The tailwater flow is maintained by upper and lower leaks in the right rim (Figures 2 and 7), and supplemental releases from the orifice gate, sluice gate, and/or service station generator when no water is released from hydropower. TWRA has primary responsibility for fisheries management in the lake and tailwater."

So they are relying soley on the leaks to maintain river flow?

Just spoke with a very helpful guy named Kevin at the Resource Mgr's Office.

He said that the reason for the little flow is due to the fact that Center Hill currently has no minimum flow mark. There is an upcoming meeting to discuss creating that very thing but at this time there is not. The main factor being watched right now is DO which is well within the state requirements. Also, they have changed the initial repairing of the leaks which make up the "falls" at the Dam to leave them as is. Those put in a flow of around 200cfs themselves.

In a nutshell the river is doing well and the catch rates are high it is just not much flow because it's not needed yet.

They have also discussed adding more stockings to the river. Trout are being caught now from the Dam to Carthage.

Interesting info and nice talking to you Kevin. Thanks for clearing up my questions.

Wow, very interesting. I am glad the waterfalls are staying. Beautiful sight, good fishing too! But the dam area seems to be a bit better with the sluice putting out that 250.

Yea at the last dam meeting I went to they had no plans to fix the waterfalls leak or the other leak at corner of the dam.

But like mnfisher said I have better luck with more flow. Can't wait for them to crack the sluice open.
