Summer time fishing

With these rising water temps I an getting excited about finding some bass out deep. I started really looking for them last summer and I am hoping to get even better at it this year. I think it will be easier with the new elite 7, last year I had a really cheap hummingbird unit and did pretty decent. I'm hitting one of my favorite stretches of river Sunday after work for a few hours in the yak.

It sure is fun. I started to catch onto that technique toward the end of Summer/beginning of Fall transition. Texas rigged worms work great for offshore bass as well as some deep diving cranks if they're in the mood. The only thing that sucks about doing that in a yak is that you're closer to the (b)ass boaters.

I had gone from view and vison to a 798 liked it so well purchased a used 1197,difference is like night and day.Being in a yak somewhat limits coverage yet that is about the speed they work best at.
I like fishing humps that come up say no deeper than 8-10 ft next to 30 ft of water-no fizzing.
Lastly one thing to think about there are always bass deep but also shallow can be 80 f water and some are in the 2 ft range,a shallow bass is an active bass.And one does not need to keep resetting the hook all the way back up from 25-30 ft to keep them on.
It is a tool,and it is also a pattern but dont get stuck on it,use them all.
Some of my biggest bass came from 25 ft level also some of my smallest.
Yet given a choice im fishing less than 10 mostly all year long,boat however may be sitting in 60 ft of water or in even as little as 1.5 ft.
When most are fishing ledges here im in this.

Americana yellow lotus-can get out and walk to shore pretty much without getting my knees wet.its well into summer,taken last year.They just like shallow and shade as well..

I would rather fish shallow all year to but it's nice finding some larger schools of fish out deep. I have a few spots on guntersville where you might have a few hundred fish sitting on one point out deep during the summer. This one came off of ledge late this spring in 20ish feet of water.

I fished chickamauga today for the high school state tournament. I had one that was barely a keeper ripping a squarebill out of the grass early. Then I had one about 4 pounds off a brushpile in 14 foot of water on a big worm.

Man, I am sure chick is just like G ville, Sometimes you feel like a champ and sometimes you feel like you have no idea what you are doing. My friends fished JPP today and caught 3 keepers between 2 boats today. I have the rods rigged for tomorrow afternoon, frog, D bomb and Chatterbait! the river better watch out.

Like you, I'm still learning a lot about ledge fishing but getting better. I've only lived in TN three years after moving here from central IL. All of our lakes up there were either marshes, reclaimed strip mine land, or tiny reservoirs with no current. Every tournament I fished would be won flipping stump fields, pitching docks, or working big grass beds. I almost only fish for bass and fishing Priest pretty much felt like fishing in a fish bowl my first year down here.

After I started to figure things out, I brought my dad down here from IL to fish Old Hickory. He was pretty confused when I put the trolling motor down in the middle of the lake. We caught over 20 bass in about 10 mins with multiple doubles off of one ledge. Nothing huge, all 15-18" fish, but still fun. I just wish I had SI so I could find spots like that one a lot easier.

Yep exactly. Once you get on them you can smoke them, but it is hard to find them.

Well, I caught 5 tonight and broke another fish off. My Braid snapped up the line, not at the knot. I have had that happen 5 times this year. I think I have a bad run of braid so before I go out next time I am changing it. I caught all my fish on a D bomb, I had one fish short strike my chatter bait at the kayak and I lost him. All smaller fish 12" or so.

I use power pro braid it's been real good for me.

I absolutely love power pro slick 8.

Power Pro is all I use, never had issues like I have had this year. Both rods I am having issues with are from the same spool so I'm hoping it's just a bad batch.
