Didn't they try this a couple years back at Hamilton Creek Sailboat Marina? Thought they were over-turned due to public land trust.

Another reason why Elm Hill is losing public interest. It used to be a good marina until it burns down twice a year and the owners are clueless on how to run a marina.

They are doing this because the adjacent recreation area and ramp are closed due to renovations and I can only figure their lot has become jammed as when my family had a slip there it was hell getting a parking spot if you did not get there at sunrise.

They really should make room and grow as public launching can only grow their business and increase the market share of the possible revenue of those that see and use the marina.

I know not of others but as for me... I shall not use them over this.

I tried to launch at three different marinas yesterday at 4 PM. There wasn't a place to park a trailer at any of them.

I decided to just let the weekenders have their fun. I can go out everyday and they only have holidays and weekends.

I don't know anything about the owner(s), but the guy managing the place is a prick. I recently bought a cruiser that was docked there. I never had any intentions of keeping it there, but after dealing with him, I know I am coming out this week.

As I understand their plan, they are going to build a nice new facility with a club house, bait shop, etc. It seems to me that if that was the case, they ought to have to build the new facility before closing public access to the old one. For that matter, I am wondering how they can restrict public access to public land. For that matter, I am wondering how a private entity can charge a fee for something that the Corps of Engineers built.

Probably. JPP access has been mucked up for a few years. There should be no charge to use any of the ramps or rec areas IMO.

I called yesterday after Pookie's original post and they told me that they are going to be creating campgrounds and putting in a swimming pool over at what I call Elm Hill #2 which is the next left past the main marina coming from I-40. She did also say they were going to enlarge the parking area. It's not very big currently. They will not have the security cameras there but they "will have their people" there. We used it one time last year because of high water and limited parking at the marina and we still had to pay the $5. Again, I don't mind paying a fee if the area is staffed but I do have a problem with just a launch fee. Still, at other ramps I have had my trailer backed into twice and my license plate stolen from my truck so I will at least give this a shot.
