Wow, yeah I would have been going nuts also. I don't think they realized what they had at first until they put it on the scales. Also that was very respectable getting a few photos, and measurements and releasing the fish to produce more true trophies.

Yeah Wisconsin's shore is quickly becoming the Smallmouth Mecca of the nation, possibly nudging out St. Claire and Eerie.
Giant, giant fish, and loads of them. Its hard for people to believe the amount of big fish up there unless they experience it for themselves.
I think I would have to spend the cash and get a good graphite replica of that beast!

Wow, just wow. And I'm thinking of how the small smallmouths I have caught put up a fight, can't even begin to imagine how that fish must have felt on the end of his line.

Kudos to him that he released it. It would have been a new state record if he hadn't. That's one monster smallie!

Haha you guys are so full of crap. Not a single person on here would release a fish they knew was a state record and you shouldn't be shamed one bit for not doing so. The chances at catching the new state record of any fish for any angler are so low that if it happens, you keep the dang thing and get it certified to claim your trophy.
