Met my son at Blue Cat this a.m. and we had a great day catching crappie and Gills. I paddled along for a few minutes until I saw the Gill beds on the si then we stopped and started catching. I also found a ton of crappie......how do I know they were crappie.....because casting to the spot we caught nothing but crappie after crappie. If you look in the center of the pic labeled crappie you will see them. Hardly any pics today. Just grabbed a few as my son was putting them in the cooler...he kept 10 nice ones and that was it. I don't know how many fish we caught but it was a bunch. The side imaging is a fantastic tool. We just pulled back from a bed and anchored and started catching. It really helps you eliminate very quickly areas that don't hold any fish. Needless to say it was a great day kayak fishing with my son. He had a great day with those shell crackers stripping line.....life is good!

Great pics. Pretty neat the side imaging shows the water disturbances your paddle strokes.

Yeah.....I have the transducer mounted at my hip. I can mount a little in front and you don't see them.....but the mounting at my hip assures I have my transducer level. I was playing catch up to my son today as he was parallel to me and it was picking up his strokes.....LOL. Side imaging is just a great tool.

Those images are awesome. Do you ever use bait, or is it always artificial?

Thanks Jeremy....I have not used live bait in years but am not against doing so. There is a technique I use below Pickwick Dam using crickets and 6# test line to catch big bluegills when they are letting a lot of water out. You only fish about 10 inches deep with a float in all that current right next to the rocks and they kill it. I use a 9 foot rod when I do that. I went out to Golden Eye today and got to see what emerging vegetation looks like on the si....pretty neat.....and in the middle of that stuff you can see bass....I assume it is bass.....too big for Gills. Also used my BG Prowler II seat in the high position for first time today...cant get over how stable that kayak is in the high position. Makes life much easier...LOL. Oh...in case anyone is interested the hybrids are tearing it up on surface at Blue Cat.

Dang Landon your tough....LOL. I caught a bunch of small 5-6 inch shell crackers but that was it. Here is a pic of the bed and the other pic is of moss taking hold and the bright white squiggly line to the right of center is most likely a good size large mouth. You can also see some bass to the right of the bed pic. The moss is getting bad quick in Golden Eye.....water temp is 75.3 degrees today. Today was just an experimental day with my kayak. Hope to do some serious fishing tomorrow.

Well juice it is closer than Guntersville and while I am not a large mouth guy I know you are...and there are some trophies in there. TWRA shocked up some huge fish just a little while back. But yeah driving gets old. I used to do the 200 mile round trip 5 days a week just a couple of years back....can't do that anymore.

Those lakes are a great place to bring your kayak. I've fished out of mine there twice, both for tournaments. I'd like to get one more trip out there before the Kayak For A Cure tournament ends but I don't think I'll get a chance to. There are some large bass in those lakes!

Maybe off topic but how is the new vehicle performing. What kind of fuel mileage?

On the highway doing 70 MPH I'm getting 29-31. Pulling kayaks on highway getting 25 MPG. Driving around town getting 24-25. I think it is good considering the capabilities of the engine. I am getting the EPA rating anyway. Should get better with some more miles on it. But I can tell you that if you keep your foot in it that turbo it will suck some gas...LOL.

Yeah...but you got a REAL boat....LOL. I am only towing about 400 pounds. But it is rated to tow 3500. Not that much but more than I will need.

Merv, I am right there with you. I get about 13 just driving my truck. Pulling my boat I think I get around 9.5 mpg. It's a 60 mile drive one way for me to Williamsport.

Mr Randy, I know you were looking for a truck not too long ago, what truck did you decide on? what color, specs?, just in case I see you around, I would like to stop by and say hi like last time I saw you at Normandy, you seem to be a very nice fella to talk to! lol!!!
great pics by the way!!, I have seen the schools of fish and I always thought they were bluegill, I read that Crappies have a very specific signature on the side imaging, now thanks to yuo I know what they look like, thanks!!
