Got an early start this morning and my clicker read 97 fish caught when I headed back up the rocks. I took better pics today so those that have the Hawg Trough can get an idea of the girth on these Gills. KY Lake has always been known for it's bluegill....and today was proof of that. Every single fish a male. All the fish were between 8-9 inches and the girth was from 8 to almost 10 inches on many. All fish caught on a Bison colored Trout Magnet using SOS 2# test line. I kept laying a wide fish on the Hawg Trough knowing it would be a 10 inch fish but it would not reach the 10 mark...LOL. It was just a great day of fishing and I tried for that 100 mark but it was not to be. Days like today are very special and this one will be in my memory for a long time. Blessed to have a day where every fish is a quality fish and they fight like crazy. The water will warm quickly and as the weeks go on they will lose some of their fight from the heat. I am going to wear them out while the getting is good....life is good!

Thanks Merv......those come from below the dam at Pickwick.......which is the beginning of KY Lake. Should be like that for 3 or 4 more weeks.....hopefully.

You got into some good ones Alpha. I am glad that place is across the state from me because I sure would be wearing it out and never see the family again.
That area of ky lake is a great fishery. There are some beast smallies down that way too.

Thanks....yeah the KY Lake Gills.....for whatever reason....have great shoulders, always have. Just on the other side of the dam in Pickwick I have caught many 9 inch gills and they are nice...but they just don't get as thick as the KY Lake Gills. I am hoping for some rain...we surely need it....and maybe they will let out about 80,000 CFS. Should make the fishing a lot better.

love Kentucky lake for bluegills, been going there since I was about 5 years old. My dad, my brother and myself cleaned over 150 (about 20 were shellcrackers) in one day several years ago. The next year I found bluegills the same size on Priest so I have not been to kentucky lake since. Want to go back if I get the chance.

on the trout magnets, do you typically fish them beneath a float?
I've always slow "bounced" ultralight jigs with no float, but I'm seeing the use of floats a lot more nowadays. Funny how times change.

I use what Trout Magnet calls the "twitch" method......which is pretty much the same as a slow bounce. But I also fish them under the float. I caught quite a few of those yesterday under the float. It can be very deadly at times...especially in the wind.

Woody I figured that bed had around 150 fish on it. Two of my fishing buddies took home 50 off that bed on Wednesday. I didn't take any but I am afraid next week those fish will be all caught out. The bed is just too easy to find. Oh well....I'll just have to find another one.
