Hello all,
I have a quick question. How much HP would I need for a 14' jon boat to navigate the Caney Fork River while max generators are running?

Navigate or navigate with speed?
A 4hp or 5hp would be at the bottom and depending on your boat a 25hp is probably at the top.
Weight in the boats plays a factor too. Get or use as much as you can hp wise.

I don't need extreme speed just enough that can go upstream against the current comfortably. I'm guessing anything between 10-20mph would be good enough?

I have a 15' Tracker Jon with a 9.8 Tohatsu 4 stroke. Me and my partner are both 6' 200 lbs. trolling motor battery and gear. It runs good on generation upstream. Boat is rated for 25hp max.

That sounds good to me I was thinking 15-20HP at least against the current. Good to know a 9.8Hp can do it well. Now I need to find a boat and motor. I'll start the search for a 14' to 15' flat bottom with at least a 9.8HP. I'm thinking a riveted boat might be good due to being lighter. I will be pulling with a 4 cyl car so the lighter the better.
