Had a busy weekend but finally got on the Harpeth last night with one hour of daylight left knowing that with the incoming weather I would not fish for a few days...hooked into this fish throwing a red crawdad crankbait across river at some rock bluffs...the bait hit the water a few inches from the rock wall and before i could start retrieving I thought I would let it sit there a few seconds...that fish hit that crank before I could count to two! Great to see a topwater explosion!

Great Smallie. I will be on the Harpeth after Turkey season.

I've always loved topwater fishing. There's nothing more exciting than seeing a fish come out of water to attack a bait. Is topwater fishing a good option for creek and river wading for bodies of water like the Harpeth and little Harpeth? I was on the Harpeth wading yesterday and the water was moving pretty good and Not sure how top water would do. If it is a good option, what top water baits are good to use (non flyfishing)? Do smallies normally hit top water?

I have actually not done well with topwater on the Harpeth but have a friend that says he does great on buzzbaits on the Harpeth. I have done best with TMs, rooster tails, any brand of crawdad in red crankbait, spinnerbaits, senkos, and jigs with craw trailers on them. The current always messes with topwater for me on the Harpeth like you said.
