I got out for the first time this year on Easter Sunday after dinner. It went well!! 2 fish caught and there were tons more. I spent a total of 20 minutes fishing for these 2, then called it for the evening.

These were my first fish of 2014 and the first rockfish I've caught since moving to TN. The big one is a personal best for me!
The little one was 35.5", 20lbs and the big mama was 41", 37lbs.

Thanks. They were caught on a 9'6" light action steelhead rod and 20lb braid. It was an awesome fight.

That is the truth! It's quite gratifying to go out and catch meals for the family. My wife and I love fresh caught fish and I put in a lot of work to keep us stocked up. I'd sure love to catch a rockfish that size, that's probably a dozen meals for us.

You ever eat Hybrids? I was getting into 3-4 pounders really good this month and man they're some good eating fish!

The 2 fish yielded 10 quarts of filet!! I didn't weigh it but surely it's over 15lbs.

I've never eaten hybrids, but if they're anything like their "papa"(genetically speaking), they must be pretty good.

Thanks everyone. It was awesome catching these beasts. Since I moved to TN last year, I have had very little luck fishing, so it was definitely nice to break out of the slump.

I definitely recommend it. I like to eat fish and I prefer a thick, flaky meat over a mushy meat. That's why I like LM/SM bass and white bass so much. This spring is the first time I've ever gotten into Hybrids and the meat is exactly how I want. I'm getting to the point where, although I still eat them, I'm starting to feel like not eating bass anymore only because I participate in a lot of kayak bass fishing tournaments and appreciate them for sport. If I can manage to get a little better at chasing down Hybrids and Rockfish, I'd gladly use them as fridge stockers and let the green fish go.
