creekcrappie

Me and Salty met at Black Jack Marina at 5:30 to do a video shoot. We drove to the cove near lock 3 aka Woody's cove. We fished for 10 minutes without a bite with a squarebill, a crappie magnet, and a fluke. Then Salty mentioned that jerkbaits usually work pretty well. I decided to tie one on and on the third cast I hooked up with a little largemouth. A few minutes later I catch a little largemouth around 13 inches on the jerkbait. About this time Salty hooks up with a bass on a junebug/chart. slider on a 1/8 ounce black jighead. I caught a few more little bass. Then Salty decides to do the intro but he told me to keep fishing while I was doing it. While I was talking to the camera I catch another largemouth on the jerkbait. We continued to go down the bank and I caught a few more on the jerkbait. After that we decide to go hit a crappie hole. We hit multiple ones without drawing a strike and we decided we needed minnows. It it too shallow to run to Walker's by boat so Salty calls them. Deborah got some minnows and drove to the boat ramp across the street from Walker's. We met her there. She gave us around 10 dozen tuffies, rosy reds, medium shiners. We got back out there and fished for crappie for around 2 more hours. At this point we hadn't even gotten a bite crappie fishing so we decided to hit a bluegill hole Salty has. We fished with trout magnets and woody's jigs without a bite. We even ran live bait rods out of the back. It was slow so we decided to run back to Woody's cove and fish jerkbaits. After 30 minutes of fishing I hooked up with a small largemouth. Salty had somewhere to be so I called my uncle and we went back to the marina. While we were waiting I picked up my trout magnet and 2 pound test made some casts. Salty put a live minnow out there. When it died he threw it into the water and a little bass came up and ate it. I fished a trout magnet right where it ate the minnow and I hooked it. He tried to go under the dock, and with 2 pound test I had no fighting power. We landed it along with a few bluegill. Before I left Salty let me have the rest of the minnows. My uncle got there and we left to go to Walkers to get some jigs. Salty's new boat is sweet! Thanks for the fun day Salty! It was a blast!
My uncle had something to do for a few hours so I didn't get out on priest until 5:00. I baited my minnow rods and before I could get the second one baited the first one went down. The first keeper hit a rosy red minnow. The rosy red continued to out fish shiners and regular minnows 5 to 1. I caught 8 keeper crappie and 9 nonkeepers before I ran out of rosy reds. It slowed down considerably but I still caught crappie. I got 4 keepers off regular minnows, and only one off a jig. Right at dark I caught a 15 inch largemouth off the jig. After I do my school today, I am going back out there to get some more. That makes it 9 days of fishing in a row. My left thumb barely has any skin left on it. I guess that is a good problem to have. :)
