Have been fishing some areas on the Elk which I have never been to. Was able to go with some friends who I knew would be there in case I went where I did not need to be at my age who has rules about where I will wade when by myself.
It seems that further down stream the fish I was catching were much longer but not that strong. Some of the big Rainbows had awesome colors on their bodies.
The numbers I caught were significant but the sizes of so many was the big surprise of yesterday and Saturday.
When just fishing below dam you can large numbers but mostly stockers with one or two nice size ones.
All of the Browns were caught on white Trout Magnets using chartreuse jig heads and Rainbows were caught using pink or white on chartreuse jig heads.
I tried the new pink and red jig head and had no luck.I will need to look at the type of body I use with them.
The last 5 large Browns I have caught have all been caught using chatreuse jigs with white T M body.

Glad you got into some fish. Wonder if dissolved oxygen is less down that far?

Nice trip from the sounds of it.

I had always heard further away the better quality for that river like the Obey but on bigger scale. It's been on my list of want-to's but every year there is just something about that 100+ mile drive one way for me that sends my car towards the Caney instead.

sounds like a very good day Mr Ed!, I know that a few years back we would catch some nice ones around Farris bridge that were healthy not the same as caney trout like you said, they lack shoulders and girt, but gave plenty of fight on the old fly rod, I miss that can't fly fish no more due to my shoulders but thank Goddnes for the TM I don't have to miss trout fishing!!
