Stripe fishing on the Elk above Woods has been great this week. Went Sunday and today in the kayak and they are running good. Both days they where hitting small chartreuse rooster tails and pan fish crankbaits. I had 1-2 pounders just about every cast

Interesting, thanks for the report. What are your access points for the Elk?

There's boat access off the right side of Prairie Plains Rd. where it crosses the Elk. Might try Google maps...I can give directions if needed. Gonna try and hit it the next couple of days till they spawn.

Fished the river again today. Lots of stripe caught again but they were all smaller males. Talked to several other people out there and everything they caught were males also. What I thought was the tail end of the run may just be getting good. Hoping to see the females showing up before too long.
Was also told some hybrids are starting to show up below Woods in the Elk River around Estill Springs.

Congrats on your catch. This a great thread as I know a lot of folks who have been very interested in fishing the areas you are talking about. I have not been able to get info on the area below Woods Dam in a couple of years. I have been told you can no longer drive down below the dam....but may walk down.

Yes the road down to the dam is closed to only foot traffic. There are a few access points in Estill...at the city park and a bridge on Betsy Willis Rd. which is only a half mile or so out of Estill. I've never fished there but would love to hang a rockfish or big hybrid in the kayak.
