As most of you know, by my reports, I typically fish Old Hickory, but I decided to go and check out the crappie on JPP. I have probably fished JPP about 10 times, but haven't fished there in 8 or so years and never crappie fished there.

I decided to put in at Long Hunter and let me tell you that fishing Priest after fishing OH so much is like fishing on the Moon. I spent the first hour changing all the setting on my electronics while at the same time trying to avoid rock islands that my map card told me weren't supposed to be there.

After I got my settings some what functional I found a flat off the main channel in 15 fow and picked up 2 crappie spider rigging. I next tried a steep bluff and caught one with a float and minnow.

I studied my map and found a big flat that could have been a creek channel but I wasn't sure. I spider rigged that for an hour or so and picked up 4 more in 8-12 fow. There were a lot of fish there but they weren't cooperating. While I was trolling I saw a big rock island that, per my map, didn't exist. I decided to troll to the main channel then troll up the creek to it. I knew this one was a creek, but I didn't see many baitfish. This could have been because they weren't there or my setting could have been off. I had been messing with them the whole time out there.

Now I didn't see much bait, but I did see some big fish arches. I thought my setting were still jacked up then BAM! the rod tip goes into the water (remember I'm crappie fishing with 4lb line). After a good fight I net about a 7lb hybrid in 20 fow.

I finally get to the mystery island and anchor up. I cast minnows on floats and get about 10 more in 3-5 fow. Almost all the crappie caught there were black.

I decided to leave around 6 because I didn't want to wreck my boat. All in all it was a fun and humbling trip.

Priest can be really dangerous. I have fished it my entire life and winter pool still scares me. At least you caught fish and by the looks of it decent fish. I caught my 22 keepers and my grandfather in his boat did not even get a bite, He was fishing deep like you and drifting minnows. I fished 4-10' deep and with crappie magnets. Your reports make me wish I knew how to fish old hickory, I do not catch to many fish, bass or crappie when I fish that lake.

Nice report. Priest is frustrating at times. Sometimes you catch a ton, somedays you get skunked.
