Had planned a crappie trip to Nickajack but storms put a stop to that. So headed to my old friend Normandy. Was very surprised to find no one at all at the dam. Hoped to get into some Kentucky's but they are apparently gone back down river. I got a solid week of them so no complaints. The only fish I could catch directly below the dam were rock bass. They were really stacked in there. It was a fish every cast until I had caught 65 of them and decided to go down river for some trout. While those fish are small the fight they give in the current is great....plus they are a very pretty fish. Headed to a hole down stream and caught 73 trout before deciding to come home. No big ones today...mostly 10-11 inch fish. They were on a feeding frenzy. If I missed one I could watch them chase it until they hit it again. Just neat to see that. I was puling them off a riffle only about 2 feet deep. The lure of choice today was a white Trout Magnet. Caught all my trout on the Phenix UL with the Daiwa Luvias reel. That is just a great setup.

Thanks Mike but I am having a good run at Normandy. Obviously the Kentucky's are done and I have caught the rock bass making their run. Have caught rock bass there before but not like this. I am wondering what will be next. Last year you got into the large Gill run and I got only two days of that after you went but will try to get in on that this year also. Hoping I catch the Smallie run up river....that would be great to get in on that action. Then we have the walleyes. I know....at least I think I know...when they will be there. Will keep you posted on that. Also there is suppose to be decent white bass there but in 5 years of fishing it neither me nor my son has ever caught one there. But Normandy in the spring is an UL anglers dream.

Kentucky bass....also known as spotted bass..."Spots". The last couple of weeks they were stacked below the dam at Normandy by the hundreds. I had 5 good days of getting a bunch at 14-16 inches.....it was a great time on the 2# test.
