I got to my crappie hole at 6:15 today and stayed until 10:45. The fish started biting at 6:30 and bit for 5 minutes. I got 4 keepers and 3 non keepers out of that. I had to really work for the rest of the fish because they were literally hugging the bottom. I ended up with 10 keepers and 10 non keepers. All the fish were caught on a "sho nuff" crappie magnet with a 1/16 ounce double cross jig head tipped with a yellow crappie nibblet. I ended up with four 12 inchers that would not fit in the crappie measurer. One of them was a black nose crappie. Someone built a fire and they let me warm my hands every once in a while. I had a very hard time keeping the ice out of my rod guides. The fish literally refused everything after 9:30.

I have used Pam cooking spray on my guides with good success.

Pam, or any silicone based product will let the water bead but will not prevent it them for freezing ... Just dip your rod back into the water after every retrieval ... The ice will melt , but will build up between cast ... <'TK>< :)
