I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.
Now that it’s 2014 its time to start planning the FishingTN gatherings. I would definitely like to have a Spring/early summer, and a late summer/early fall.
YEAH, YOU READ THAT RIGHT, TWO GATHERINGS.
If you haven't read yet, jdkxtreme was generous enough to donate his pull behind smoker, and buccaneer was the lucky guy who got it. Now we’re going to be able to cook for a lot of people.
Once we pin down some dates, then we'll start planning the logistics side.
Here’s how it will go 1st Set a Date, 2nd Set a Location, 3rd Headcount, 4th Volunteers for food, beverage, and other needed items. As you can see this is a timely planning process so please join in as soon as you can and don’t drag your feet.
I would also like to know everyone's thoughts on the venue it was held last year. (The good, the bad, the ugly)
Good Spring/Early Summer dates for me as follows
March 22nd&23rd, April 19th&20th, May 3rd&4th, May 10th&11th, June 14th&15th

The best Late Summer Early Fall for me are:
October 4th&5th, October 18th & 19th, October 25th& 26th

I would like to keep this on a Saturday if at all possible because I'm sure everyone will need some forgiveness for all the lies that are told.
Once we pin down a date, then we will coordinate location, food, beverages, and games. These will be family friendly events, and we encourage you to bring your family as we are all family here. We’ll try to watch our language, but you know what happens when fishermen get together.
Once we pin down a spring date, and location then I’ll create a new thread with all the detailed information, and I’ll do the same with a fall date.
Let the discussion begin…….

I have been on vacation the during the other gatherings. With the oldest one in school now, I doubt we'd go on vacation during school year so all but June would be a better option for me.

Responding to the staff e-mail asking me to weigh-in. I can't commit... but I can say for sure that all the March, April and May dates are out for me. The guiding business is hopping then. In fact I have most of those dates already booked.

There is a major BASS event on the June 14 weekend I might need to cover. But that will be optional and I might make a gathering then, depending upon location.

The last two October dates I will likely be in South Dakota. The first Oct. date might work for me.

This is a note to all FishingTN members....if you have ever wanted to know HOW NOT TO CATCH FISH, make plans to be on hand for SAMBOLIE'S fishless seminar he plans to give at the "gathering".

I guarantee if you do the exact reverse of what he says, you'll catch fish.

And......TK musta taken down the spammer with the little blue pills before I had a chance to get any. Would you send me a couple Sambolie? What you suggested sounds kinda interesting, maybe like you have prior experience!

Like Jeremy has previously mentioned there will be families present ... So Please everyone watch their Language ... Spread the word ;) thanks <'TK>< :)

These will be one day events 11a-6p or so. I'm wanting to know if there is a preference of a Sunday, or Saturday. I'm leaning toward Saturday, and we need a venue. So if anyone has ideas on a venue please speak up.

Alright guys the date is set for Saturday May 3rd, and it seems like Sanders Ferry Park is a good central location.

It was brought to my attention that we could get a shelter at Shelby Park for free from one of our gracious members here, but it didn't seem as if there was much interest in Shelby Park.

Shelter (8) the large one by the water holds 250 people and the cost to me will be $200.00 for the day. This is the one everyone is talking about, it would be a little overkill to the group we had last year around 35-40???.
I don't know if its available or not. If everyone wants me to get it I will try.

Hey guys the #8 (large shelter) is already booked for both Saturday and Sunday May 3rd & 4th by another group. The only shelters that are open are 1&2.
There is a fishing tournament out of this park from Thursday May 1st until Saturday May 3rd, and the large shelter is rented out Sunday May 4th to another group.

I was advised that there will be many vehicles with boats on trailers and a lot of boat traffic at the docks.

Shelters 3-8 are already reserved for this fishing tournament, the two that are available 1&2 are the farthest away from the water.

Do we want to follow through with Saturday May 3rd and go with Shelter 1 or 2, or change the date????

Jeremy ...what memories ...Shelby Park ... In 1954 when I was 8 years old my Dad use to take me sledding on the Hills on the Golf Coarse ... It wasn't to far from our house ... We would travel Riverside Drive to McGavock PK. We lived 4 house's from the river right before you boarded the old Ferry to Donaldson ... The ferry was the Judge Hickman... I lived on the river as a kid ...

Question ..I can get there but if you or Mike could give me an address that I can plug in to my GPS it sure would help ... The only way I would know to come is via Inglewood down Riverside ... And I know the Nashville route would be better ... I haven't been to Shelby Park since 1972 ... When I moved back to Tennessee ... Thanks ... <'TK><

PS ... I had a Great Aunt and Uncle who use to live in an old stone house on the right when you first entered the park from the Nashville side .. ... They were born in the late 1800's ... My Dad told me he would ride a bus for a nickel to Shelby to swim in the pool in the summer ... He was born in 1920 ... Is there still a swimming pool ... I know The duck pond is still there I fished out of it in the 50's with my Dad ... ;)

You can only not fish in the ponds in the preserve. The river and Shelby pond are good to go

Here is the location of the shelter, the blue pin. Right on the lake. Plenty of parking, plenty of table space. No grill though, so if the plan is to grill, someone will have to supply that. We have it reserved may 3rd 6am to 11pm. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/25/y3ytu3yb.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/25/byhytype.jpg

Has Shelby gotten any safer in the last year or two? Last I heard, you didn't want to spend much time in the park without a gun or two.

Current laws prohibit guns in parks. No need to fear since the thugs likely abide by this law and also would not take guns there.

Lol!

Seriously though, East Nashville definitely still has its bad areas, but it has improved drastically. It is probably if not the safest, one of the safest parks in east Nashville. I have spent 2 days a week there for the last 2 years. Never felt threatened once.

Jallen ... Need more definition ... Everybody says they want to help and can bring anything ... Well We need to know what is coming .... If you want to bring burgers , buns and chips ...great now we can plan what is needed and what is not ...

But not picking on you and hope you get my point ... We need a list of what everyone is comfortable to bring ... For example , Fish, cooking oil, Burgers chips, cold drinks, cups and ice, Condiments, Hot dogs and buns , and not for everyone who is attending, just the amount that you want to bring and fill comfortable with ...

Now I know from past Experience ... Susi makes a mean German Potato Salad (She is from Germany ;)) and a lot of custom baked beans and deserts are in the cabinets and recipe books of a lot members wives kitchens ... So a answer to what ever we need ... You don't want to here well we need 40, 1 1/2 inch Angus fillets ... Get my point ... What are you comfortable to bring ...

Just tell us what you are bringing and Jeremy will post of what is coming and that way we can fill in the blanks ... This gives us a approx. people showing up (members, wives and kids) ...

We have always had a great time meeting everyone face to face .... And we have never ran out of Food !! <'TK>< :)

I'll bring five pounds of fresh (meaning not cooked) crappie filets, breading for the filets, a couple venison backstraps, which will need to be grilled, and a big bowl of macaroni salad.

Susi will make a dessert, probably apple crisp or a pie, something like that. And of course we'll bring Sophia and if there are no objections, da Snorkster!
