JPP Night Fishing

Jad2t's 2014 Fishing Goals post got me thinking about expanding my fishing trips. All the posters on here im sure know the churning, crowded disaster that JPP is during the summer months. Well i read an article from jim duckworth about JPP night fishing for summertime white bass. By no means do i want to come across as questioning his knowledge knowing his experience in fishing, but is that still a good bite or was the article i read old? I know summer is a good ways down the road but if the article is current i wouldnt mind doing some more looking into it. Ive also heard that guys get into the hybrids at night too, but again i dont know the where or when, i guess mainly the when would be more helpful.
All in all if i can still catch some fish AND avoid the tubers and skiers and such, that would be another chance to wet a line!

In the late 1980's thru 1995 I night fished JPP 2 or 3 times a week. This was much more productive than day fishing.
Caught many above average LM and SM. Also caught drum and cats with bass lures. I do not recall catching white bass at night. A few times I had 6 lb line stripped and broken. Pretty sure this was hybrid/striper as we were fishing locations known for catching them.
My best white bass fishing on JPP has been in March and early spring in the day.
I am sure Jim could catch fish any time of day or night.
Back then there was a lot of hybrid fishermen on the lake at night.
TBH I am not sure there is a good time to fish JPP now.

A word of caution. There are still a lot of idiots on the lake at night. I was missed by inches at Cook's landing one night while plugging the shore.

I have not tried this on JPP, but have worn out the hybrids and whites on Tim's Ford in summer. I have no reason to think JPP is any different. Fish under lights at night!

JPP night fishing is awesome in the summer. I wear out hybrids, whites, crappie, lm and smallmouth bass, and drum. I troll cranks from my kayak, both near the bank and out in open water. Try either trolling or lights and I'm sure you'll get into fish.

PS: if you don't mind the drive, try fishing with lights on Dale Hollow this summer...amazing how big rainbows are drawn to your lights...

You are right Mike. Fishing under lights just like fishing for crappie at night can be very productive for whites.
One peril of old age is forgetting the obvious. I totally forgot that when night fishing for crappie with my father we also caught whites. That was 50 years ago. Still the larger ones came in day fishing.
I am adding another 2014 goal. Take Ginkgo biloba.

As far as night fishing Percy, we used to catch a bunch of bass on the Midnight Special spinnerbaits slow rolled along various banks and jig/craw combo along deeper rock banks. The hits on the spinnerbait were enough to keep you going as they'd crush it.

Unfortunately, I have almost been swamped by a cruiser joy riding at night in my bass boat. So those risks are out there as well.

Yeah the article did mention lights for sure, both submerged and hanging over the edge of the boat.
Im gonna give that a try this year for sure.
Along with hitting the river at night all year long for 'eyes!

X2.....It works anywhere I've ever been. Was a time when you would see the bluffs lit up at Center Hill with boats fishing for huge white bass at night. But I think the population of whites there has never recovered to what it once was. Too bad...it was a heck of an experience.

I grew up fishing under the lights on priest for crappie and had many magical nights. My grandfather still does it but I don't think he has nights like we used to. I also bass fish at night on priest and it's common to have nights where you catch 30-40 fish in one night. I need to rewire my black lights this spring so i will be ready for the summer.

I caught these this summer under a light in about an hour, we ran out of bait and quit. They don't seem to start biting till 11:30. We got 26 Crappie and several whites and yellows. Can't find my total pic.

does it matter what kind of shad are in the lake or does it work on any kind of shad? I assume the goal is to attract shad and bait fish.

I have done in different states and it works if you set up in the right place
