I hit Cairo for the first time today searching for sauger. Paddled up to the mouth of Bledsoe and fished down to Cairo with no luck. I did happen to snag a paddlefish (first one ever...now if I can figure how to upload the photo from my iphone for kayakwars..it's 100 points). Also caught a few short bucketmouths. Water temp was 46.

I haven't had much luck the past few times I've been out. I think my problem is I bounce around all over Old Hickory (Cairo, Bledsoe, Drakes Creek, Cages Bend, Station Camp) instead of fishing one part and getting familiar with it. I'm gonna pick one and learn to fish it. Hoping to hook up with some stripe, sauger, and white bass before the end of Jan.

Beautiful fish! All those spots you named I was fishing 46 years ago.....great memories.....I doubt I would recognize some of them today.

Alphahawk...out of curiosity which was your favorite to fish? To date Cages Bend is where I've had the most luck.

goreds.king,

Nice paddlefish. Those things can really pull when you snag them.

You are fishing most of my "home" waters as I live in Gallatin. Cairo is probably my favorite area. A bunch of great spots in that area plus it isn't all that crowded. Granted almost anywhere except the Steam Plant will be empty in mid-winter.

All of those areas can have great fishing, but of course, it depends on the season and species as to where start.

Sorry I can't give you an up-to-date report, but I have been swamped with work since Thanksgiving and wont get out for another week or so.

I liked them all....but Cages bend was just a great place to fish. I also hunted quail all through there. Back in mid 60's it was common to catch 150-200 crappie a day out there. Now they were not big crappie as we have a lot of today and there was no size or creel limit. I can't speak to the bass fishing of today out there but back then to a young boy it was pretty darn good...not to mention the bluegill. About a year ago I drove up to Gallatin and went down Cages Bend road.....couldn't believe the houses through there. Used to be nothing but farms.

Congratulations on the Paddle Fish, I've not caught one from a kayak. I've never had any trouble uploading pics to Kayak Wars directly from my phone. I just log in and log my fish and upload my photo. I select Upload Photo and then go find it on my phone. That wasn't possible until I got a Smart Phone.
