I have to take a few moments and brag up Humminbird support.

I have a 997 ci SI that I [purchased in 2007. Last year I asked them to upgrade it to the HD di. No problem they said. Sent me a card that I plugged into my unit and BOOM, I now have down imaging capabilities, plus the line scales on my side imaging that shows how far a "target" is from my boat.

Then, last year I also purchased a 597 HD di unit for the front. But, I had interference "noise" from my Terrova trolling motor. Called Humminbird again, explained my problem. No Problem! We'll send you a new power cable with a filter in it to stop the interference. Cool. That worked pretty well. Cleared up about 70% of the interference.

But my 997 always had interference on the side imaging screen from the trolling motor when trolling at any speed other than wide open. Lots of static lines so I couldn't really see anything on SI. Forgot about it and just used my big motor when "searching" with SI.

Finally got tired of not being able to see my SI while trolling for crappie (or in this case, for trout) so yesterday I called Humminbird support again! And again, "NO PROBLEM! We'll send you a new shielded power cable AND a new ferrite ring filter. Install these and your problem will most likely be solved. If it isn't 100% clear, here is the number for MinnKota. They have a filtering ground wire you can install on the trolling motor that will eliminate the rest"!

How many companies will give you the phone number of another company??

Now, realize that I ordered this stuff on the 26th of December and received it on the 27th. That is unbelievable! Thankfully they used FedEx instead of USPS or UPS. If it had gone through either of those, I'd probably be waiting til spring.

Well, installed the new cable and the ferrite ring filter, turned on my 997, put up the SI screen, hit the trolling motor at all speeds....PERFECT! Not one little bit of interference.

This is one of the main reasons I stick with HB products. They work, they are easy to operate, their support staff is awesome and they'll upgrade you anytime something new comes out. I will ALWAYS be a Humminbird man!

This is comforting especially since I recently purchased a Hummingbird. Their CS has a great reputation. Thanks for sharing.

As you know (past post) I just purchased a HBird 998 HD DI/Si ... Just finished installing it last week .. Now it will take me a month to put my Boat back together LOL !! .... Remember old fat guys with bad rotary cuffs and knees aren't as flexible as we use to be !!!

Also as previously stated HBird sent me a select priority phone number and email address etc ... But like Merv I started using HBird flashers since the 60's out of Eufaula, Ala. And then bought other HBird products ... They have always been on top of their game when it comes to customer service !!

I have Lowrance products as well , and probably as good and maybe better in some areas than the Birds ...( I haven't found it yet though) In fact I have one on the bow of my walleye boat now ... And two Paper Chart graphs That I used exclusively in the 80's/90's on my guide Boat ... but setting on the shelf in the shop now ... ... and still good operative units ... But it seemed the customer service attitude that was from the Lowrance folks was, they really didn't like their job, It was kind of like a one way conversation with them ... Yes or No was the usual answer ... Plus $$$! ... Never got anything free from these folks ...

Just my two cents worth .... <'TK>< ;)

That's great to know Merv, unfortunately there are not many companies like that around anymore.

Glad they took care of you Merv. I am still looking for a unit....just haven't made up my mind...and yes it is always about cost....LOL...for me anyway. But being a Gill fisherman a HB side imaging is my top choice.

Thanks for doing all the leg work for me, Merv! I started having the same problem on my 898 this fall when I upgraded to a 24V riptide trolling motor. Hadn't had a chance yet to track down the problem myself. Should I tell humminbird to charge it to your account?

LOL, go ahead Alex, they know me on a first name basis by now.

And since my bow mount 597 hd di combo is having the same problems, I'll be calling them again on Monday and asking for a new ferrite ring filter for it.

And that's what this site is all about to me, sharing information. You never know when somebody is going to post the exact info you need to solve a problem or point you in the right direction.

But my 997 always had interference on the side imaging screen from the trolling motor when trolling at any speed other than wide open.

I vote you run that thing wide open all the time.
