Today was my day off so with this beautiful weather, I headed out in search of white bass...and found them. I was cruising back and forth when I saw what looked like a school of fish near the bottom on my fish finder so I drifted a ways past that point and then started casting past the school and reeling back in. I was using a silver Blue Fox inline spinner and they were nailing it...but, I had to cast past them, let the lure sink to the bottom and then reel it in very slow, just fast enough to spin the blade. If I used a faster retrieve, they wouldn't touch it. I also tried a Little George and a redeye shad and they wouldn't hit either of those lures. I'm guessing I caught around 30 or so and then it started getting too crowded for me so I headed home. Water temps were around 48, and the water in the marina lagoon was slightly stained but not as bad as the main river. What a beautiful day to be outside on the water!

Great job! Man, by the looks of that graph, there might have been more than white bass there!

That's a great picture of fish on sonar. Those are some chunky whites too.

Thanks...LOL, I have no idea. I consider it an accomplishment that I saw arches on the graph and actually managed to catch some fish :D

thats a REALLY good accomplishment! from the looks of your pics, they must be getting some decent fish in the area with all those other boats. Great catches!

They look like white perch with strips but bigger. Thanks for the great report and pictures....................woody

From what the locals tell me, this time of year the sauger come into that marina and that's what most of the folks there were fishing for (and the white bass). Most of the other fishermen were jigging vertically...I didn't see anyone catch any sauger though, only white bass.

The white bass were bunched up really tight though...if I drifted just a bit too far one way, no bites. I had to constantly reposition the boat so that my spinner would go right through that school and I could feel them hitting it (or it hitting them) on almost every cast.

White perch are in the temperate bass family, along with white bass, yellow bass, stripers, and hybrids...they are the only ones without stripes.

Good job on the whites, looks like you had a blast !

It was a catch and release day. See, I'm inherently lazy..so the thought of having to walk all the way to the back of the boat, to lift up the livewell lid to put the plug in the drain and then walk all the way back to the console to flip that switch to start the pump, and then to have to walk all the way back there again every time I caught a fish to put them into the livewell...and then having to tote them home and clean them...it was too much. However, I did offer to give my fish to several fishermen as I was catching them but they declined which makes me believe I'm not the only lazy one out there on any given day.

HA! I should have thought of that the other day when I only caught the one white bass.

I will now become a great fisherman!

Dang it TK, now you went and dimed me out, just when I had them all eating out of my hand. Guess I'll have to start taking some colored markers with me so I can make my fish look slightly different for every pic ;)

Now now, let's not give away all of our trade secrets! Before you know it, this forum will be full of pics, all of the same fish...

Man I understand about the pics. Times one is happy to take a bunch to show off everything you catch.....then days you don't really want to take any pics.....then the days you start catching schooling fish.....such as white bass.....and you know they can be there all day or be gone in 20 minutes...LOL.......stop to take a pic and you wind up with only one fish.
