Arrived at Center Hill at 6:00 a.m. Got the boat in the water and was fishing around 7:30. Thanks to the fishing report I got from Mike Dial started fishing in 30 feet of water on bluffs with timber. The Spots were there all day. Caught most of them on a Purple Redemption Trout Magnet and some on Woody's 1/64 black jig. All fish were caught on 2# test line with 2# test fluorocarbon leader. Would cast to the bluff and count down to between 15 to 18 feet...started the twitch back and more often than not had a nice Spot on. Caught quite a few smaller ones also but took no pics of them....mostly 11 inch fish. Lost one good Smallie that threw the hook. These Spots fought hard....made 3 or 4 more runs as they would see the boat. A lot of fun on the UL. Called it a day at about 1:30. The action was steady all throughout the day.....didn't keep count but a lot of fish. Crappie were nowhere to be found...but I was just as happy to get into the Spots. Caught a bunch of small Gills but nothing big. Water temps varied between 50 and 53 degrees.

Those spotted bass are pretty. I wish JPP had more of them, I don't think I've ever caught one in Priest, only below the dam. How come you're never in the kayak lately? I'm dying to get the kayak in Center Hill. Maybe if I get a chance we can hook up for a trip there.

Jimmy I won't say you won't ever see me in a kayak this time of year but it is rare. I will probably get back in it in early March. My Winter time fishing spots are really not conducive to fishing from the kayak.....no launch points close to where I fish from the bank. Yeah Center Hill has got a big population of Spots. Started to bring a limit home but decided against it....got up so early to get there knew I wouldn't want to clean fish when I got home. I'm getting old....LOL.

Looks like a lot of fun Randy.

Check out the new issue of In-Fisherman. If you don't subscribe its at Walmart's and others I am sure.

There is a very interesting write up on clear baits/jigs and take on fluoro line.

Great minds think alike....LOL. I do get the magazine and I have read that article several times. It is quite interesting. I have learned a lot about fishing for winter time Gills from that magazine these past two years. Going to get me some clear micro jig bodies and test them out. I'm really into getting some trophy Gills in the winter. Going to spend a few days at Pickwick next week if they don't open the gates even further. Was hoping to get some big Gills yesterday but only got some medium ones. I think I cold have gotten some but most of the time I would cast to those lay downs in 30 feet of water I would hook into the Spots....pulling 2 or 3 off of one then moving to the next one. It was a fun day....the Spots were very active and have been gorging on shad....their bellies were full of them and when catching one they were regurgitating big shad.

jad2t, JPP has quite a few spots in there. You need to fish the lower end in deep water 15 - 30 ft. I loved to catch those spots!!! They are my favorite fish to catch in the creeks too. I fish a local creek that has some monsters in it.

Way to go Alpha, you caught some chunky spots...they are becoming my favorite fish to catch, love the fight they put up.

Thanks......that is an awesome color. I field tested that color on Center Hill before it came out. The Smallies tore it up there. In the past few years I have really learned a lot about using different colors. Most of it by trial and error. I have no clue why one color works better in one body of water than another body of water but the facts are that it does.....and find that on certain days the popular color for that body of water that always seems to work can change on any given day. There have been times....very few times....that even bluegill can be color selective. It is tedious to go through all the colors one has when the fish aren't biting and I have found at times I will get lazy and not do it and really didn't give myself a chance to catch fish for the day. I find the whole color thing very interesting.

I couldn't agree more Randy. The color selection is something I don't think Mother Nature will ever share with us.. LOL. I am glad I have finally forced myself into using flouro every time I fish with the TM, it really is part of the system.
