So I took the day off to do some fishing, seeing how we had almost duplicate conditions from exactly one year ago; the Cumberland is high, running fast and muddy, and we had a recent warming trend...so I figured that I would have some luck fishing the marina lagoon like last year. Nope. Not a single bite the entire time I was out today. The only difference between today and last year is that the water temperature is about 6 degrees colder than it was last year. There were several people fishing from the bank and also 5 or 6 boats, all fishing the marina and no one was doing any good. What a difference from one year to the next...but it was still better than being at work :) And today was the first time I got completely skunked in all of 2013 LOL. Below is my report from Christmas eve day of last year:

http://www.landinglunkers.com/2012/12/25/christmas-eve-fishing/

I started out fishing a Senko, a jig and a crankbait right at the edge of the main river current break near the riprap and the big steps, thinking the fish would be hanging there to get out of the main current but nope. I also made a round of the marina, fishing the riprap with various lures, and also threw a blue fox silver inline spinner, a little George and a redeye shad hoping for at least one white bass but absolutely nothing today. Water temps were around 45.

One of those days Nomad. When I was at Pickwick today there were a bunch of folks fishing for crappie. No one even had a bite. I was bumping bottom for Gills and was doing pretty good. A TWRA officer came by checking license and said he was surprised that no one had any fish. He told me he was there yesterday and folks had a lot of nice crappie. Thats the way it is sometime. I hope they are on tomorrow.

Skunked also... Hit the stones today in M'boro on my lunch break. Tossed senkos and tubes. Water was up and a little murky. Nomad do you wacky rig senkos?

I don't mind being skunked, but I really expected at least something with the warmer weather we've had the last day or so. I hope you get into them tomorrow!

99% of the time, I fish black, 4" Senkos weightless, Texas-rigged on a 3/0 EWG...and I fish them more like a jerkbait.

moon was pretty full last night.

Is that detrimental this time of year?

A disappointing day but still a good day to be on the water. I sure wish you had taken some more of those beautiful nature pictures.

Welcome to my world Nomad!!, I think I get skunked more times than not, still trying to figure out the whole thing about locations, time of year, time of day, migration, spawn, prespawn, post spawn, fronts, barometric pressure, fishing pressure, amount of light, bait size, speed, depth, mood of fish!!! etc, Dang!!! just realized women are a heck of a lot easier to figure out!!!
I just need to hang out with Alpha or Woody or TX native and many others on here to get some of that combination of knowledge and experience needed to quit giving the monkey some free rides on my back!!
