Took my 3 year old out for some fishing and enjoying this nice December weather.

She caught 8 but I missed a bunch more for her in the little time we were there. My hook set just wasn't quick enough today. She picked the hot color for today a bright pink Trout Magnet.

A tip for those that may go up there or really anywhere with Trout Mags: Use light line. Use the line it is set up for 2lb test and fluorocarbon leader. Especially when chasing trout.

We were catching far more fish than anyone I seen and some never caught any. Don't let a 3 year old out fish you....it's the system just as much as the angler. :D

I will say this, the water was a little dingy yesterday after the morning rain so I got away with 4lb. test and a 4lb. fluorocarbon leader. I also had to add a BB weight about 8 inches above the trout magnet to get it to sink fast enough in the swift current.

You catch all the big ones out already?:D

No, I didn't get any of them yesterday. Where I caught one of them last year, the trout released Tuesday havne't move there yet. Who knows where they will be after the water gets back down and clears up.

When they stock, the TWRA will put half above the waterfall and half below.

Above the falls the fish have moved all the way to the hwy bridge by the high school before but below they seem to never go past the green way walking bridge by the ball field.

My daughter and I hit up Springfield for the first time yesterday. Not ideal conditions (cold, water was fast, high, and the color of chocolate milk), but we went anyway. Since this was my first time I wasn’t sure where to start. Caught two bluegill right off then nothing. Right before we decided to leave we went back to where we started and caught two trout (both on white trout magnet). I didn’t know they stocked them above the dam or we would have tried there. Great day, my daughter was a trooper.

Question on floats used with the trout magnet. I used the pear shaped float that comes with the kit, but they tore up quickly. Have you used any other floats with the trout magnet?

Great pic! I assume when you say they tear up quickly you are talking about the line cutting into the center of the float. That is an issue and if you have to change the position don't pull the line though the float with the peg in the float....you may already know that. I use other floats from time to time but for the money TM floats are hard to beat. When I trout fish and use the float I may lose several in a day getting hung up. I have used some nice Thill floats but I like to switch back and forth from float to twitching and so far I haven't found anything that is as convenient to do that with other than T M Floats. I tried some Gappen floats but they are several bucks a pop so that was quite expensive. You might try some of the small clip on plastic floats they sell but I am not a fan of those but they may work for you.

hey Alpha, this may be a simple question but when you rig a trout magnet float do you just slip the line in the float and then put in the stopper or do you wrap the line around the stopper before you secure it. thanks.

I just slip the line in and put the peg at the depth I want. Don't be surprised sometime if your on the Caney fishing a Trout Magnet under the float if a big brown comes up and hits that float and you have a 100 little pieces of foam on the water...LOL. It's pretty neat to see...of course you would rather he be on your hook.

Alpha, Just put a hook in your float.
