Yesterday I was invited to a pond for beaver removal. The beavers didn't show up, but I did catch 6 or so nice bass. Not bad for a quick after work trip. All bass came on a black and blue chatter bait. I've been invited to come again today, this guy wants them gone. It may have to end up being a night ops.

I tried adding a picture with Tapatalk, but everytime I try it says Tapatalk has quit working.

If help is needed, I have sufficient firepower.

I saw some pics on facebook of someones fish from there...nice looking bass. As for those beaver I don't know if you are shooting them or what. I trapped beaver when in the Army at Redstone Arsenal.....we didn't have a clue what we were doing...LOL. They wanted them gone and let Army personnel trap to make some money. But it was tough....and if you get too close they will take a huge bite out of you...LOL. How many does he think is in there?

Got it guys. Emailed to myself, saved on my external hard drive, and then down loaded the photo, then uploaded the attachment.

Thanks for the offers.

He says 1, but by the looks of the destruction it looks like more than one. He says he's gotten within 10-15 yards. I took my bow, but he just laughed, I thought G5 small game heads being launched by a 72lb 28.5" DL Creed would do the job, if not Rage broadheads. The owner said no playing around so I brought something else. He was not seen yesterday, gonna try again today, and then may have to go with a night OPS mission.

It's a small pond 3 acres or less, it looks like the water is dropping so I think there may be a hole in the dam.

Good fish man.

Beavers aint no joke. The creek i fished heavily for shoal bass in Georgia was full of them and they were always around trying to intimidate me by tail slapping.

I hear ya Blink. The last couple years at the steam plant I would be fishing at night. I would sence something near me and then all of the sudden "SPLASH". Or you would see them swimming near you by the moonlight, they had some big ones out there.

There are some big ones in the Caney as well. I was wading at night down by Happy and it was a full moon so you could see pretty well. At one point, I was fixing to move and felt something push water by my leg then seen a huge beaver silhouette go by underwater. Between that and the tail slaps that night I almost had to empty my waders out.

You are not kidding Alpha!, when we go to west TN to duck hunt (we hunt public land) sometimes we sleep on hammocks at the swamp so we have first crack at what hole we want to hunt, and several times when we get up to walk to stretch and get the blood circulating again they would be 4 or 5 feet away chewing on cypress saplings and they would get scared having someone right on top of them out of nowhere and they would scare me back in the process, (I know what you mean Travis!)
yep that tail slapping is an unmistakable sign he aint happy with our presence, killed a few while duck hunting with 3.5 inch shells with BB's

nice fish Jeremy!!!, AR 15 on .223 on the head from the yak, no recoil and handy follow up shots available if needed would be what I would take!!

I get a little nervous thinking about firing a .223 at a low angle over flat water. Miss by a little bit, and it's awfully hard to say where that bullet is going to go.

This is really a job for a shotgun.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that firing a rifle into waterways is illegal. Don't have the regs with me,.....nor the inclination to look it up seeing as how I won't be doing the shooting.

When I see a thread with a title like this I automatically think of the steam plant :)

Shooting over water is illegal with a rifle, but I am thinking the intent is public waterways. Hunting beaver with a rifle is probably ok. Either way, anything more than a 22 is overkill.

For some reason Jeremy this keeps coming to mind.

I've personally seen a bullet from a .22 ricochet off water and bounce off to parts unknown. It violates the basic rule of always knowing where your bullet is going to go. The guy who posted about 3.5 inch shells with bb shot was dead-on accurate. That's what you need. You could probably even get away with lighter shot, but you might as well make it easy.

After a little research, it turns out that it is only unlawful over navigable streams. With this being a 3 acre pond, fire away.

I apparently didn't read close enough to understand it was a private pond.

FIRE AWAY.

But as bd says, the .223 bullet will richochet at a flat angle and wind up wherever. I think a shotgun is key here, especially if it's a night shoot.
