Trout stock at Shelby Park

:confused::confused:Just had a few guys to leave out of the store, said they didn't have any luck catching. Any other reports from the trout stocking? I would like to no what they were biting on today

They were scheduled to be stocked today so I would give it a day of acclimation.

I was down there for a few hours today without a bite. There were some people catching the occasional trout on minnows. Since it is an hour drive from where I live and I didn't catch anything I don't think I will be back.

In the pond at Shelby, I have no idea what's there to locate them other than randomness or maybe a deep spot in the pond. Pond or lake fishing for trout is tough because they seem to cruise more. In a river or creek setting it's far easier because the current will place them for you.

Couldn't agree more. When I would fish for them in VFW Lake and they were rising it was a piece of cake......but if not you had to find them....hard to do.

I think Halli is right that a day of acclimation will make a difference. Hatchery trout are used to being in a crowd, so for the first couple weeks in a place with no current they will all tend to swim around in a big "pod" or school.

Because of that, you have to search for them unless you want to sit in one place and just hope you get lucky and they come to you. If you fish a spot and don't get a bite in ten minutes or so, move.

Spinners or spoons are useful because you can keep moving around and covering water until you locate the fish. Then you've just got to stay with them.

The cool thing about Shelby Park pond too is that you can walk the entire bank. The only place you cant get to is the very middle.

I plan to go out and slow roll some huddlestons and maybe trick a big bass.
