Well I managed to make it a year without having to do any major work to the boat so I suppose I was due!

I have a 1985 Evinrude 115hp VRO.
Idles fine but when I try to put it on plane I go nowhere. Revs up like normal. Spun prop hub? Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

If the prop is the original from 1985 you can bet the rubber in that hub is shot. Easy way to tell is to put a mark on the shaft and one on the prop hub. Take it for a spin and check to see if those marks are still lined up. About 10-15 years is all I ever get out of a prop before hub slippage starts.

Roy ... These motors don't used shear pins ..,. Like most everyone else has stated ... Your problem is a spun hub ... take your prop to Performance Propeller in Old Hickory ... Approx. $75/$100 for stainless .. worth it ... If your prop is aluminum ... just buy a new prop .... <'TK><;)

As I have mentioned I am a little OCD but I always carry a spare prop with me just in case. Especially since I fish the rivers you never know when that rock might have moved to a new place that I didn't know about. For my little Honda motor I can buy the Solas off the net for about $50 each. Cheap insurance.

Thanks guys! Headed to Performance prop this afternoon.

Roy - good idea to carry a spare. I may need to pick up a cheap aluminum spare.

I've been idling to some hunting spots the last couple days and noticed that it's no longer peeing water either. Sounds like I may need to replace the impeller while I'm having fun here. When it rains it pours...

$75 and 15 min later my prop is good as new. Hope to get new water pump in and L/U oil changed first of next week and be back on the water.

Good deal I guess, (hate to spend money) but it could be worse.
