A new sign was posted at GSP yesterday stating that, "The canal will be closed November 4th 2013 til spring 2016"
Yes you are reading that correctly, 2016, bad news for wintertime anglers like myself. They having been doing serious construction back there all summer and they are suppose to be running stuff overhead from what I have been told. This is purely a safety issue from what I understand.

Hate to hear that for all you guys. I used to fish it back from mid 60's to very early 70's. Always a great spot.

man 2016. that's along dang time.
I guess I never got to experience a great day in the canal. I always seemed to catch the fish out in the mouth and on the flats.

I ran to the Steam plant Sunday morning to check for Sauger and Crappie. I didn't have much luck with either one. While we were drifting back out towards the channel we saw an albino deer walking with another doe. I've always heard about them but have never seen one myself. Pretty awesome!
We ended up running to another Crappie spot a little further up river back in a cove full of boat docks. We had 14 keepers that were all between 11 and 14 inches. They were way up under the docks. When I came home and cleaned them, all of them were males except for one. Which surprised me a little.

Do you think this will sway some of the guys that run the canal during winter all together or stack them up on the flats out front.
I am still planning of fishing the area just a little differently now.

I was thinking about that too. Honestly I don't think it will be as busy as it usually is. There were only 4 boats in the canal on Sunday and two of them were bass fisherman and didn't stay long.

I hope some traffic leaves in case day fishing is an option but really I will just end up fishing it at night more than likely.

I guess they are legally able to close the canal but I don't see how they can. They don't own the water do they????
