On Saturday November 16th we will have our next Kayak Fishing TN event. It will be hosted at Williamsport TWRA Lakes in Williamsport, TN. There is a $5 fee per person property use, and must be paid at the kiosk just past the concessions building. You are required to have a valid Tennessee Fishing License.
The mandatory Captains Meeting will be held at the kiosk just past the concessions office at 0600. At the Captains Meeting you will have a chance to ask questions in an open format, and all rules will be gone over, the meeting will last approximately 15 minutes. No entries will be accepted after 0630, and start fishing at 0700. Entry for the competition is $10 with big fish being an optional $5, and paid in exact cash before the Captains meeting.
(PLEASE BRING EXACT CASH)
After the Captains meeting you will be dismissed and able to fish any lake on the premises (Bluecat, Shellcracker, Goldeneye, or Whippoorwill (only if you are accompanying a youth 16& under one adult per youth for Whippoorwill). Check-in will be at the shelter located on Shellcracker Lake at 1400. This is where your photos will be judged, and monies awarded. Bring your own food and drinks for there is nowhere close to eat.
This will be a two fish CPR event catch photo and release. You can either submit largemouth or hybrid bass in any combination. The hybrid bass will have a multiplier of .8 so a 24” hybrid would equal 19”, and largemouth will have no multiplier. Only artificial lures may be used. The fish must be facing left, dorsal fin upward, mouth closed, and tail in the natural lay position. The bottom lip must be touching the zeroed mark of the measuring device. Lengths will be measured to the nearest 1/4” and must break the mark. Camera phones will be accepted. This is a paddle craft event only, no electric, or gas propelled watercraft, kayaks are preferred.
All anglers must possess a valid Tennessee fishing license, all anglers must have a PFD, and it is suggested to be worn at all times while on the water. If you would like to just come out and fish without joining in on the competition you are welcome to and will only have to pay entrance fee of $5, and possess a valid Tennessee Fishing License.
Williamsport Lakes are having a hunt this day, the lakes are open, but to warn you there will be hunters in the woods.

I heard talk of this one possibly allowing live bait, glad to see that only artificial lures are allowed. Assuming I'll have this weekend free, I'll be there!

I encourage all the other kayak fishermen on here who haven't attended one of these events to try and make it. It's cheap entry fee, this lake is full of huge bass, and the kayak angler community is composed of some great people.

Glad to hear you guys are coming. TK has been gracious enough to send more decals to me, and another Bass Pro Shops Gift card, that I have yet to determine how to give out.

We may have some special guests also.

I'm there.

I've upgraded my kayak since the Station Camp tournament. Told my wife everyone there was paddling a Cadillac while I was paddling a Yugo (no offense to those who own a Yugo). I’ll be in the Old Town Predator 13.

Nice upgrade. I saw a Predator in action last weekend. Looks like a great kayak, and I've heard nothing but good about them. Congrats. It does make a difference in what you fish out of. Being comfortable, and in a stable, and in a well tracking kayak are priceless. If you're not comfortable, you cannot cover ground, or can't stay in your watercraft it's hard to fish effectively.

I am thinking about maybe joining you guys for this event but I have never been on any of these lakes. Which is the best to fish and what tactics would you guys recommend. And yes I know it's tournament but any help would be appreciated.

I've never fished Williamsport either so I'm going in blind. I tried doing a little research on the web but not much luck. I don't enter trying to win...I enjoy meeting folks, fishing, and kayaking.

I love the Predator so far! It really is a different experience than fishing from my Perception Pescador. I was out this past Sunday for about 5 hours and my back and butt never hurt. I had a few knuckleheads blow by me in a bass boat…had I been in the Pescador I would have been swimming. Only complaint would be the weight of the boat. It’s a little on the heavy side, but I’m quickly finding ways to deal with it.

What time does this event end? Trying to find out if I can catch fish and kill deer in the same day.

With the cooler water temps I would concentrate on Blue cat or Shellcracker. I've caught more and bigger hybrids on Blue cat, the bigger largemouth have come from Shellcracker.

These lakes are almost structureless, with very little cover. The max depth is around 25', and both have creek channels. The main forage is shad, and some are rather large. I've had luck with spinnerbaits, deep cranks, jerkbaits, and Rat-L-Traps. I would think paddle tails, and soft plastics would work also, along with jigs.

Thank you sir. That at least gives me an idea.

I was wondering about the forage. Big shad lakes make for big bass! Maybe i need to bring my swimbait setup and throw some big baits!

Saturday high of 68, cloudy. This is going to make for a great day as long as the winds aren't to bad. If you have a drift chute, drag anchor, or anchor bring it. The wind can get bad on these lakes.

a 3' chain clipped to the back handle of my boat seems to work pretty well for me.

If you plan to fish Blue Cat and it's windy, you better have about 50 ft of rope to hook that chain to.

15MPH winds out of the south. Windysport. You could troll 2 DD22's drifting with the wind and never have to paddle (maybe back paddle, because you're still going too fast).

Haha the wind was brutal last time and it did frustrate me. I now have an anchor that I plan to use.
