Hi, everyone. I fished Old Hickory on Friday and caught a mixed bag of small fish. I did catch 3 keeper crappie. I talked to a couple of guys who said they were catching crappie in very shallow water in the backs of creeks. What exactly does 'backs of creeks' mean? I know that Bledsoe and Barton are creeks, but does 'back' mean you go all the way to the end and fish, or does it mean on the banks anywhere in the creek? (Probably a dumb question, but as my name says - I'm still learning!)

First off when you are learning anything new, there are no "Dumb Questions" ... Usually Backs of creeks means near or at the origin of the creek .. Now there is some confusion among folks about Heads of creeks ... To some "Heads of Creeks and Back of Creeks are the same" To others, Heads of creeks, is where the creek empties into a larger body of water such as a river ... Hope this Helps ... and ask as many questions as you feel like you need answers to. There is a vast amount of knowledge stored back in the brains of our many members ... .... <'TK>< :)

Also, where is considered the mouth of a cove?
The mouth is where the cove meets the lake, or the opening. Like between the 2 points of a "C"

Also, where is considered the mouth of a cove?
The point where it meets the main water body.

Tell me what you have, Brand, and Year and HP of your motor ... If you don't know the year ,just give me the model number and serial number ... If I don't have the shear pin in stock (which I probably do) I can get it .... .... www.oldoutboardbarn.com ... Only older Outboards used Shear pins ... unless you are talking Electrics ... <'TK>< :)

It's a 1970 evinrude 18 hp motor. It ran fine untill it hit a rock and now the propellor won't spin, we think it is the shear pin.

Yes I have these ... To check to see if this is what you need ... Remove the cotter pin holding the cone prop nut in place ... Unscrew the nut ... Slide the prop off of the shaft ... The pin is located at the end ... Note always use shear pins and not nails, etc ... You want the shear material to snap/break not bend ... <'TK>< :)

I just checked it and it was snapped in half, and my uncle said we could go and get it all day tomorrow. When and where can I meet you to buy one of them?
