Trout magnets

In the short time on here I have noticed that most of you guys use the trout magnets and something else like it. I have to ask what makes them so great at catching fish???? They do not look like anything special. you guys catch about every species of fish on them.

I really think it's just a super ultralight way to fish. Might not be so much the bait, but the technique. Several times this spring I tossed flukes and other bass baits without a single bite, went to the 2 lb test and trout mag and started catching fish every cast, big fish too, not just panfish.

Whether the technique or bait, I still will throw the TM on 2 lb test, because it works for me in several circumstances.

I thought the same thing, but it's a lot stronger than you think. As long as you have a decent reel with a good smooth drag and it's set properly, you would be amazed at what you can land.

I brought in a handful of 2-4 lb hybrids last spring on 2 lb test while crappie fishing. Just takes a while, and make sure your spool is full if you hook a hybrid on 2 lb! They make LONG runs!

Oh yeah Hybrids are fun. I thought I was crazy when I used to fish for them with 10lb line and spinning gear. I cant imagine that small of a line. The only time I use small diameter line is on dale hallow for smallmouth and that is either 4lb or 6lb fluorocarbon.

Juice, this may sound like just a funny statement but it is the dog gone truth for me: Trout Magnets are the best baits to come along since live bait was invented.

I have caught numerous species and sizes on the 2lb test. To me that is more crucial than the bait on the end gotta use the 2lb and in clear waters add the fluoro 2lb leader. Don't think you can "get by" with bigger. Most unsatisfied people that use them aren't using the correct setup.

There are as many ways to rig the TM as there are colors to fish with.
I am not the pro here, however I have had very good success with the TM. I have 2 rigs. 1. 5 1/2 ft Cheerywood light rod with Pflueger Trion UL reel. 2. 6 ft Falcon HD light rod with Mitchell Avocet IV gold UL reel.
I use 4 # Bass Pro line in green. No leaders. Occasionally I use a split shot or float. Catch ratio is very low using a float.
I have my opinions and when I combine them with $1 I can bet a cup of coffee at most markets. Here goes: The size and weight are the main attributes of the TM. The 1/64 head allows the TM to fall at a rate desired by fish. It can be fished in more places (rocks) than heavier heads. I have used the 1/64 head with the Trout Slayer and it is as productive as the TM. Also tiny tubes are about the same.
I have found color to be important also.
If fish are present and hungry most any presentation works. For the past weeks very little has produced for me while bank fishing.

Will chime in on this one when I return from my trip....but if you pull up threads started by me you will see what the Trout Magnet can catch. I have many other lures but 90% of my fishing is done with Trout Magnets. It is not a good lure for really heavy current....it is just too small and you can't get it down to the fish. Such will be the case tomorrow....I will be fishing for trout but I have no Trout Magnets with me...this river is way too swift for them. But I will be throwing Trout Magnet Trout Cranks and expect to do well.
