Fishing the "jumps" on JPP

Kind of a misstatement there as there were NO JUMPS today where I found them earlier this week.

SAMBOLIE and I were sitting in my favorite "jumps" bay before daylight, salivatin, expecting the good jumps we had earlier in the week. Sorely disappointed when there were no jumps at all.

So we hit some brushpiles with jigs and minnows......nada. Two hours and we ain't had a fish on the line, let alone put one in the boat.

It's startin to look like the old SAMBOLIE jinx is alive and well.

But he hadn't figgered on agelesssone's bag of tricks, one of which is TROLLIN!

So, it was break out the box of crankbaits, the baitcaster's, the 12' rods, set'em all up, cast'em out, put'em in the rod holders and......cruuuuuze.

At one point we had a quadruple going but while we were handling two rods one fish got off, but we still had a triple.

Two hours and thirteen crappie in the livewell later, we decided we'd leave some in the lake for the rest of y'all. And seein as how SAMBOLIE didn't want any fish, and I have plenty at home, I was tasked with bringin them home, fileting'em, vacuum packin'em, and giving them to my wife's best GF, a single mom with two kids that love fish! Made me feel good!

And the SAMBOLIE jinx has been broken so alphahawk, you can take him fishin' with you again and not have to worry about not catchin any fish!

I would like to thank Merv for his invite to fish the jumps. These are his exact words in the invitation: " I'm driving, my boat, all you have to do is meet me, jump in my truck, sit back, relax and enjoy the morning! "

What a pile of BS I stepped in. I had forgotten why two are needed when trolling 6 lines. Merv told me he would take the tough job of controlling the boat. All I had to do was watch 6 lines like a cat watching a ball on a string. Once a fish was on all I had to do was stretch and bend to take the rod from the holder, then get the fish to the boat without tangling in other lines. When the fish approaches you simply lift a 12 ft rod and swing the fish in like a pendulum. You soon learn to control a swinging fish and avoid a slap to the face. I was sure grateful to Merv for such a relaxing morning. I can skip my workout at the gym today.

Seriously, Merv is a great guy to fish with and I can't thank him enough for allowing me to share his boat today. It would have been a great experience if no fish had been caught. The keepers were just an added bonus.

Glad you all figured it out. Been a brutal week for me. At least if Sambolie is with you he is a good guy to talk with in case the fish aren't biting....I found myself talking to myself this week....LOL. Thank God I didn't answer myself...LOL

You are right about the interesting conversations with SAMBOLIE.

We did have some good banter going on, good BS, and life stories, all the while, trying to figure out where the fish were and what they wanted.

It took awhile but we got it done. And I had to treat SAMBOLIE like a red headed step child cause I could see his wife caters to his every whim and he ain't used to doin nuthin! AND..... as the CAPTAIN of the ship, I'm allowed to order the PLEBES around, make'em haul in fish and such, ain't I? Dadgum tootin!

So, once he quit cryin' and accepted his fate, we got on real good. I'm the steerer and your the hauler inner! Purty simple rules I thought! I just didn't see how he could keep getting confused when I'd holler "FISH ON THE YELLA ROD!" and he'd look left and right at all six rods. Hell, t'wernt but one yella rod and it was always in the same place, right by his left foot.

I kinda likened it to fishin with either a six year old boy or a forty year old woman. Neither one knows much about fishin', or left or right, or yella and green. So I just leaned back in my seat, kinda shook my head, and thought.....was I ever like that?

Naw, ain't no way!
