Arrived at Pickwick early this A M and caught a total of 6 bass on top water and that was it. They were caught on a flat and were all maybe a pound each. I fished for 4.5 hours. I spent 2 hours on the flat and 2.5 hours in tailrace. I knew there was a high pressure on top of us but went anyway. On the way down did not see any wildlife anywhere. I could not fish the point on the lake as the wind was out of the south and there was a 6 foot deep debris field between me and water. So I went over to the Pickwick Store to see if an old acquaintance was there....and he was. So I talked crappie fishing with one of the best crappie guides in the south "Roger Gant". So my trip was not a total bust....it is always good to talk to a fishing guru that shares info.

So how many would make it take to call it a good day?LOL. I catch 6 and call it a good day, most caught in a trip were probably 20 but that was alot of little bluegill. If I ever get to catch 100 someone would probably calling me an ambulance.

Hey...it happens and I think I have posted several times where I caught no fish. But I am sitting here right now figuring out Pickwick......or some place else tomorrow.....cause I sure can't catch them at home. Todd I know you fish around Cordell Hull. In the spring of the year and early summer.....and other times you can get 100 plus white bass catches a day below the dam. A good place is next to the boat ramp on the lock side. I would be fishing Williamsport or Laurel Hill but the Gill population is in trouble at both places.....very sad.

Oh.....I forgot to tell the good news today. I have not fished Pickwick for crappie in two years....even though I caught some early summer this year....I wasn't really targeting them. I usually fish a lot down there December through March for crappie. But in 2011 the rotator cuff went out in November and did not fish from then until late March. Then in November of 2012 the knee went and it was replaced in January 2013. So that is two winter seasons I missed crappie fishing Pickwick. Mr. Gant says there are more crappie there than ever before. That is great news because I always thought the crappie population there was great anyway.....so now I guess it is better.

We all have those days...and I probably posted the same pic for each one of yours in fun.
Wish I could give you a lead for tomorrow but I have really been fishing in a long time. I think that was around mid-July but come Monday may be on the Caney at some point.

You taking your boat? I can't get a good weekday schedule to fish it since they are sluicing. Maybe in a few more weeks.

Depends on if dad is going. If not then yeah will have my polakraft and hit it late sunday night thru monday sometime. If he does may take the bass boat ride the sluice.
Wish they keep weekend schedule one more day because i'd really like to wade.

Well if anyone knew the population of crappies on Pickwick it would Be Roger Gant! This guy pulls in 90 fish per day every day but Sunday! When I use to work as an outside salesman for an Industrial supplier I was able to employ his services for my clients and me. He is a top notch guide and used to guarantee fish! Or you don't pay. Not too many guides will make that claim. Sure wish I had that job back<>< LOL!!!

Only caught 4 fish today. That is a tough day. I threw all the lures....soft plastics I had and it really didn't matter....except for one bait. I had a silver flutter spoon with a dressed white hook. On every cast with that they would just nose it and each time 5 or 6 bass would follow it to the bank....small and big bass. They just wouldn't commit to it. Of all the other baits I tried nothing followed. The fish I caught were all about a pound and fat. Had about a two pound fish at the net and the hook come out. He was really fat also. Was throwing that flutter spoon on my UL rig with 2# test line...so the fish I did catch put up a good fight.

Sorry to hear another rough day Alpha.
It must be a sign September is upon us. I have always had tough times that month no matter what the year was like. For me it's blamed on the changing of the seasons but could just be my worst month of fishing.

At this time the past 4 years Travis I have been catching Gills out of Laurel Hill....VFW....and Williamsport. Not this year. Laurel Hill is just not producing the big fish and to compound the problem there are very few small Gills being caught. Williamsport is producing plenty of Gills but they are small fish....5 to 6 inches. The Caney is not on a schedule to fish weekdays with the sluice so I am just killing time until mid September.....which is only a few weeks away.
