Good day with Robhal11. Started off slow but then we got into white bass. About 10 or so on crankbaits. In 20 ft of water in the jumps...rapid fire catching, We did released them. Have heard mixed reviews on the taste of this fish??

I find them very tasty if you cut all the red meat and the blood line out!

What area where you fishing? Thanks!

I skin them like catfish. Takes the game taste right out.

X2 on MNfisher. I cut the red meat off and they are great. Nice white meat, just as good as crappie.

X3 for MNfisher. I don't eat but a few species, and whites are on the list.

Same here. I love the things and would take them over crappie if there wasn't more work involved in cutting away the red meat. Lots of fun to catch....

You threw back white bass? Why would you do such a thing?? I think we're up to X4 on what MNFisher says. A little more work on them since you have to remove the red meat but they're possibly my favorite freshwater fish to eat.

Good thing is they're quite plentiful so you'll find them again and you should give it a shot, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

So much fun to catch, especially on ultralight tackle. Those things have quite a fight in them pound for pound.

x5, They are very good if you take the red line out, and soak it in cold water for 24 hours.

I agree they are fun to catch especially on lighter tackle. We always fillet them then take the red streak out and they taste just fine. I always end up catching them while fishing at night for crappie.

I think taking the red meat out is overrated. I filet and skin them. I like a fish that taste like eating fish. I don't care for crappie becasue they have no taste. They taste like whatever you bread or season them with. No taste of fish what so ever. I also love trout and many people don't because they say they taste too "fishy".

Look at it this way if you beer batter them and deep fry them and you have friends and family over your not going to get a chance to eat them.LOL.............Woody

X6 Just had some last Sat night and they went quick, IMO don't cut out the blood line just clean and freeze right awayput ice in your well or in my case a frozen gallon jug to keep them chilled while fishing goes a long way to keeping the meat from getting fishy. I have a freezer in my garage so I can store fish for you if needed
