Went to Pickwick early this morning and struck out for what I was fishing for. I fished in the lake...below dam....tail race.....by the lock....off the point....on the flat....nothing. So went back to generator side to catch some drum. I noticed some top water action a little ways down the side walk and walked down to check it out. Whatever it was had gone and I headed back up to where I had left my tackle bag. It was a Cabelas backpack tackle bag that my two great nephews had given me about 3 or 4 years ago. It had held up well but I was going to replace it after this season. Well a blue Herron had pooped right on top of that bag....what a mess and what a stench. I walked up to my car and got a plastic bag and took all my tackle out of it and threw that bag in the trash. I can still smell it. The blue Herron is big anyway but Pickwick has some really big ones and man did he do me in. No fish and lost a tackle bag....such is life.

Like you said, alpha, insult to injury. That heron was probably more a Bass Pro fan than a Cabela's lover.

Man, I was thinking you were gonna say the bag was gone. At least you could throw the bag away.
Funny story Alphahawk! Even if the fishing wasn't great at least you got a good story to tell. I have never heard of a blue heron ruining a tackle box before. My dad always says "as long as it makes a good story, it was not a complete loss!"

Lol!!! I really am sorry, but that is hilarious!
I used to have to clean heron poop off the rental pontoons at a marina I worked at. Yep, the smell is HORRIBLE!!

That is one hilarious story. Be thankful that you did not have it on your back when the attack happened.

"as long as it makes a good story, it was not a complete loss!"
a great thought and so true. Some of my best stories originate from some kind of personal grief. One has to maintain a sense of humor about one's own mishaps.

Alpha, Target has an inexpensive back back that you could toss next time you are the target.
Gives the heron something to aim at.

I can't believe you tossed a gifted heirloom from your kin folk over a little water turkey poop !!?? :o
In 2004 on a Tarpon charter with the wife and Rick and Donna Duty I hung a lead bull tarpon of the pod that weighed in at 145 pounds ... ( The hook actually went through his gills and somehow hung in the eye socket but not the eye...
While taking pictures before the release ... The old Bull apparently got excited and discharged ... (No exaggeration !! ) We all guessed including the Captain a half gallon, now friends an neighbors ...That's 2 quarts, or 64 oz's of sperm !! on the women's purses , That actually started floating towards the stern of the boat ...
Hey, Now do you think these purses were going into the trash can ?? and they weren't even Family heirlooms ... Heck no !! Emptied the contents in to a plastic bag ... and while the first mate was washing down the deck with a 5 gallon bucket flowing to the scuppers ... The purses was getting washed as well Jack !!
Randy !!! Now what's a little Herron Poop ??? LOL !!! <'TK>< :)
