Pickwick and Lindy River Runner

Started fishing at 9:00 AM. Caught a few large mouth with same setup I have been using for almost two weeks now....1/8 ounce jig with Crappie Magnet body. I was not on the prime spot....a couple of guys had it and were catching Gills with crickets.....they must have taken 150 up to their vehicle. I asked if they would mind if I cast right in front of where they were fishing and they said it would be fine. They were only fishing a foot or so out with the crickets under a float. I took the rod strung with 14# test and a 12# test leader and tied on a size 3 Lindy River Rocker. Well it was a great 3 hours of fishing......didn't keep track of numbers today but it was a very fulfilling day. That is the only crank bait I can think of that will track like it does in heavy current. I was casting parallel left and right of me and many times the fish would hit it just as I was going to pull it it of the water....now that is a lot of fun. No big boys hit today and not a single white bass was around. But I caught plenty of fish from 13 inches to 15 inches. I only took one pic. It was raining off and on for the morning and I just kept the phone in my tackle bag. The water really dropped off at noon as they started shutting gates. So I came up the hill...changed clothes and came home. About 99 percent of the time when the water does that you can pack it in as the fish beat feat. I can see why Doug Markham is high on this lure. I am hoping the water will be down enough tomorrow where I can use it casting right and left in rip rap off of a flat that usually holds bass this time of year. It seems to bounce off rocks pretty good. I don't think I would want to use it for white bass though with those sharp trebles. It takes a while to get all of those out of the mouth of a fish......they are extremely sharp. Water was clear and 86 degrees.

That's what I was thinking. You should have seen the large mouth hit this thing.....a lot of commotion....LOL.

Good job Randy. You gotta be tough, driving all that way to fish. I should do that too, it would put me on Ky. lake around Dover, some good fishing over there.

But I have figured it out. It costs me approximately $0.33 per mile towing my boat. With my Ford Expedition towing the boat, I average 10.6 MPG. 200 miles round trip at today's gas prices would cost $64.00 (actually more since I used $3.40 for pricing and gas by me is $3.48 per gallon). Three trips a week = $192.00 x 4 weeks a month = $769.81. Neither me nor the wife could live with that kind of expenditure.

I guess I need to buy a fuel sipping car and either learn to fish from the bank or join the plastic navy!

Yeah it is expensive. Me not being married helps out a lot too....LOL. I will have to slow it up some as I can't do this every month. There are certain times of the year when the places I fish get stacked up with certain specie and I tend to wear it out during those times. browntrout thinks I should move to Arkansas....fish the White River in the morning for trout and up in the lake for everything else....LOL. I have not ruled it out.
