I took my son out creek fishing today from 10 to 2. He wanted to wade, swim, and play while I fished. I caught a bunch of 12 to 14 inch bass using creek minnows and the bison colored crappie magnets that Alphahawk gave us at the gathering. Thanks again!

Here is a few shots with a typical bass.

Both my son and I had a great time and we both "napped" when we came home. A good Sunday for sure.

Jim ... a parent who must contain the patience and will power to fish with their very young ... WHILE YOU REALLY WANT TO KICK ASS ON A 5 POUNDER !!! Is very commendable for all of the above !!

Maybe that is why my 40 year old son Runs around in a Sea Ray sporting twin 454's and I am still fishing ... I probably didn't have the patience, keep up the good work !! <'TK>< :(

That looks like a lot of fun Jim and man he is getting big fast.

Have you been to where we went with the kids this year? I haven't been since last year but may take the girls and wondered what it looked like.

That is pretty cool deal Jim!!, love pics with the kids!, that is a really neat set up you have there with the umbrella, how do you have it rigged??, this is the one thing I need for when my 6 year old little girl comes with me on the Riverhawk, also what kind of umbrella is it??

Hi Travis,

I am sure your girls are growing quickly also. We should get them together again soon.

As for that creek spot. Unfortunately, some people found it and started having big bonfires and leaving lots of trash and beer bottles everywhere. Started last fall and this spring the "No Tresspassing" signs went up. Bummer as it was a great place to fish with small kids and also has some big smallmouth for the dad's entertainment.

I hate people that trash a good thing.

The umbrella is an old patio umbrella that the crank broke on. I cut it off and installed it on a screw on seat pedestal base. I added a pin to hold it open since the crank mechanism is gone. The screw in pedestal is great as the umbrella can't blow out of the boat. I cut the umbrella lower so that it had better coverage when the sun was coming in at an angle. It also tilts so that helps to.

It does not look pretty, but it is a must for taking my son on the boat. He gets hot fast in the sun and is not happy. He has to wear that big life preserver and it is like a winter coat in the sun. I dunk him in the water often, but now he can play with his superheros in the shade and is quite happy in the boat.

My wife found a nice umbrella at Sams Club for about $40. I will use it when the current one breaks.

It has nice tie downs already attached to the edges and side protection. It should work great. We are using it for shore fishing right now, but will move it to the boat when needed. It seems better than the old patio umbrella, but I have not used it long enough to know if it will hold up.

Sun protection makes fishing a lot more enjoyable. Sometimes we anchor up and set a few catfish lines and then lie on the back deck in the shade and tell stories and eat snacks. Good fun with a child.

Can't say I am shocked by that because it wasn't the first nor the last to be ruined by people. It does stink though as there was big smallie I was hoping to get a round two on. He had won the first.

Yeah we should get them together again. My big one starts elementary school on Aug 19 and my little starts a 2 day a week pre-K on the following day.
