These are pretty much concerning catfish from the bank. Also me getting skunked lately :D oh well it happens!

Went below Cheatham Dam last night 6-12 at the bottom of the boat ramp. Pulled in about 40 skips 3-6 inches with about 50 throws of a 4' cast net. Started fishing with the skips and dip bait and got a couple of decent tugs on the skip which I think were turtles. One time I tried to set, felt it anchored prettly solid and couldnt budge whatever was on there. Brought the line in with hook, sinker and leader in tact but no bait on it. Also set up right above the lock on the top side from about 10-11pm with 4 lines out and skipjack on them. Only got a few nibbles. Oh well at least now i've got some bait!

Spent a couple hours (1-5pm)down below Percy Priest dam sunday 6/16. Castnet caught baitfish, a bass, a crappie and some bluegill. Didnt get any bites on cut bait. They werent generating but were spilling some water. I was also bass fishing with a beetle spin and pop-r without much luck. I may try again if I see they are gonna generate one night! I had good results there last year in late summer with dip baits.

Yesterday 6-26 I made the drive out to cumberland city. Fished from 540am-noon. There were two smokestacks going and lots of current. Fished the side of the discharge and and walkway with cut skipjack, whole live bluegill, worms, dip bait and some artificial stuff. No luck at all. Used every rig I could think of to fish on the bottom, just off the bottom, short leaders, long leaders, close to shore, in the boils, far out and down by the supports for the bridge. Not a good pull, tug or fish all day except for the bluegills I was bobber fishing for on the side.

I'm having a rough time catfishin' this summer and can't really figure out why. Bluegill and bass have been decent. Also ive found a stream close to home thats chock full of redeyes, so I guess ya win some and ya lose some! Hope everyone else is having better luck!

It's good of you to share. Lots of folks won't post except when they do good. But folks can learn just as much from the bad days as they can from the good ones.

I know absolutely nothing about the water you are fishing. However in the Chickamauga Tailwaters where I fish a LOT, the blue cats routinely back down from the immediate tailrace area in the summer. They typically do that after the "Spring run" and the water temps start getting up into the high 70's and low 80's.

The majority of our blue cats are downstream bunched up in various holding areas. I'm doing the majority of my fishing for blue cats well downstream from the dam now.

I put that up so other people may be able to identify patterns or heck even tell me if i'm doing something wrong.
Thanks for the advice. I'm looking into areas farther down but there isnt much bank access to those spots. As far as species I take whatever I can get when it comes to catfish. I'm gonna be moving more towards fishing small rivers and streams here pretty soon. If not with catfish it'll be fast action with everything else! Get back to the simple times and just have fun fishing!
