I'll be camping over there this weekend Thurs-Sun and will have my canoe. I've looked through some old posts and from the campground launch toward the marina seems to be a good bet. What is the water depth on that part of the creek? Has anyone been up there fishing lately? Any advice on bait/lure for that water would be much appreciated! Hope to have a good report for everyone Sunday nite :) Thanx

I can't answer your questions as I have not been there since about 2003, but from what I remember of the place as a kid there was always good fishing to be had. Good luck and enjoy!

Sorry, I can't help either, but I will be interested in hearing your report as I am hoping to go camping there with my son and his friends soon.

Good luck,
Jim

I didnt fish as much as I was hoping at Defeated Creek. We were in spot 77 which is to the right of the beach - it was on a small cove off the creek with some structure. Two guys fishing the Thurs nite tourny out of the marina came by on their boat and fished right where I was on the bank. They told me the week before they caught 5 keepers and one was 6lb LM from this spot. But nothing for nobody that night. The next day did some TM under float and caught a dozen mini Gills - it was great to keep the boys occupied for a while. I also was in my canoe in about 15' of water with my 11 yr old. We were really more talking then fishing, but I looked over and asked where his float was - so he grabbed his pole and pulled up 13" Spotted bass! He was pretty happy, but I think I was more excited :) No pic because I wasnt even planning to fish on that paddle - just float around for a bit...That was the biggest fish we've caught on a TM

Been busy but wish I'd seen your post earlier. My son's school has an annual Father/Son camping trip there every year. Always Thur-Sun, my Dad always comes up Fri night and he, my son and I fish all Saturday. Last year was Jun 13th-16th and this year was Jun 6th-9th. Can't remember the exact dates of 2011.

In 2011 I caught a 4 lb'r and my Dad caught one about the same size, son got skunked.

2012 my Dad and I got skunked and my son caught 1 bass about 6-8" long. I honestly don't know how the hook got in his mouth.

2013 my Dad caught 1 bream and one 1 1/2 lb'r and I caught a bass about the same size and a skipjack. Son got skunked.

I really do not enjoy the fishing there.

Sorry, I just noticed this as well.

It used to be great fishing and with the slots should be full of nice bass. I know a couple people who have caught 7-8 pounders in Defeated. One was caught in the pocket on the right as you head up the creek from the campground beach. The other was caught I believe in a pocket just downstream from the creek mouth. Also as you head out of the creek across the channel is a good bank starting in the pocket then go upstream.

I have done fairly well fishing the shaded shorelines getting into the brush heading upstream from Defeated. I like flipping in the log piles close to shore and always do best staying out of the sun. As far a the Creek itself I usually don't do as well as others seem to do. If Im in water over 4 ft deep i seem to struggle.
I fish mostly up stream from the creek. Fly rod is great using wooly buggers or colorful streamers, I like to chuck and duck creature baits to. I
love the solitude of Cordell Hull and am preparing for some action below the dam next.
