Was up this morning to listen to "Mike and Mike in the morning"....LOL....with Doug Markham. Since I was up decided to head out to Blue Cat. The bite was on! In two hours caught 55 fish. Caught 12 Black Nose crappie all around 12 inches....got 7 gorgeous Shell Crackers all at or very close to 10 inches....and 36 Gills right at the 7-8 inch mark. The crappie were caught with a Bison color Trout Magnet using the 1/64 TM jig head. They were in about 4 feet of water but were just about a two feet under the surface. To catch the Crackers and Gills used a Trout Magnet on a 5mm tungsten jig. They were in 4 to 6 feet of water but down in the rocks. If you didn't crawl it along bottom they would not come up for it. For you bass and hybrid guys pretty good top water in middle of lake on the surface. The Gulls were tearing up the shad along with the fish. It is time to put the kayak in and catch 100 of the Gills and spend 5 or 6 hours out there. The water is much warmer than just a couple of days ago. Pics are not good....taken with iPhone and just didn't want to take time away from fishing....only could stay a couple of hours. All fish were released to fight another day.

Nice trip.
Is there a fee to fish that lake? I wonder how accessible the hybrids are to a fly during the year or is the lake pretty deep?

Yes it is 5 bucks.....or the yearly fee of forty. I think the lake is 40 feet deep....but not sure.

Now and again in the fall when they are busting the surface would be the easiest time to catch them on the fly.

Nice fish Alpha and I'm glad to see you had better luck on the water than I did. Man, I was sorry I didn't have any trout magnets with me yesterday. A friend and I went out to Bumpus Mills and aside from a few small bass, we couldn't catch a fish to save our lives. We threw everything but the kitchen sink too. That cold front and the sudden rise in water levels had the fish with a serious case of lockjaw. I kept thinking, "I bet if I had some TM's I could at least catch some nice crappie and maybe some bluegill."

I've already got my 2013 license, but it sounds like I would be better off going and paying the $11.00 for a senior license as it would save me the lake fees.
What'cha think?

You have to be at least 65 when you buy them. If you buy in Feb. and you turn 65 after that date you still pay full price.

as I stated previously, I bought my 2013 full priced fishing/hunting combo license when my 2012 license expired. I turned 65 years old 18 days later ( March 18). My question is, read carefully, can I now go and buy a 2013 senior citizen fishing license for $11.00 so I won't have to pay the daily fees at TWRA lakes that charge?

You did not ask if you could now buy a senior license. You only asked if you should. My answer was based on your limited input. I had to assume that you were not 65 when you got the last license.
Now read carefully.:) I do not know if you can buy two license in a single year. I am betting that you can.
Also, I do not think the license exempts us from the daily fee at all lakes.

Once 65 you pay no fees at agency lakes. It is in TN Fishing Guide.

and you don't have to purchased a trout stamp either.
I was giving my mom grief about this last week. The "old retired" people who fish all the time and use the heck out of the resource don't have to pay for it like us still working folks that don't get to fish much. Something not quite right about that... :)

Many of us never make 65 and many that do are no longer capable to use the permanent license. You appear a little short sided with comment and I take offense for myself and others of my generation.

I think the comment was in jest. If not, I would remind the younger generation that those 65 and older paved the rough roads so that the younger generation could have a smoother ride.
