Spawning pond bass

I walked up to my pond near my house today, and I started casting my lipless crank bait. As I was walking around the pond, I noticed that about 25 yards away I saw boils in the water and big beat up fins sticking out of the water. That could mean only one thing, spawning bass. I quickly tied on a shaky head. I casted my 1/4 ounce shaky head with a zoom trick worm on it, and proceeded to hook and break off 2 giant bass. Does anyone know a bed fishing bait that I do not have to us as light line as a shaky head?

I like a texas rigged 6" zoom lizard in chartreuse or light color if you are sight fishing.

Or if you know where they are you can back off and throw a jerk bait.

Just remember they have a task to finish!!! Catch and release.....<><:D

I was thinking a big creature bait too. The place I fish they spawn in the old lilly pad fields before the pads ever come up. My favorite thing to throw is a Zoom Horny Toad (watermelon crawfish) on a 5/0 light worm hook with a couple split shots (6 inches or so above) just enough to sink it. That way it will hoover on a pause. I cast it as far back into the shallow water as I can then just slowly crank it back. They will absolutely hammer it.

That color is not only a good frog color but also a good imitation for bream. I believe the bulk and kick of the legs could be mistaken for both.

I'm not a fan of bed fishing, and believe in the "leave them be". Try a drop shot, you will be able to keep the bait in the strike zone and keep it moving. If you do catch one of these girls throw her back as quickly as possible so she can finish her thing.
