I fished one of the ponds I guide on today for about three hours. No giants, but we had fifteen or so that were over 9" and three that were 10" or a little over. The two best weighed a pound each.

I call a 10" one a giant, don't think I've ever caught one that big

I suppose you could say I'm spoiled, Chase. 10" was once a giant to me, before I got into pond management; but I've caught hundreds this size since then. But the main reason yesterday was a slight letdown is because there were several between 10.5" and 11" that came out of this pond last summer, and most of those fish were relatively young and very healthy and all were released, so I know there are several in the neighborhood of two pounds or better now in that pond, and I was hoping to get one of them to the bank yesterday.

But, typically, the biggest ones are caught May through October; and of course we had that cold front come through Thursday. So, considering the cold front, it wasn't a bad day.

Two summers ago the owner of this pond caught a bluegill that he measured by his hand at 14" long and 10" tall, but he didn't get a photo of it because the neighbor's dog was trying to eat the fish and he didn't have his camera with him and his wife, who was just across the six-acre pond talking to their neighbor, couldn't hear him calling for help, so he released it so the dog wouldn't eat it.

I call a 10" one a giant, don't think I've ever caught one that big

I have had about 6 bass shake my lipless crank air today, including a Nice one. Did not really land any today. Do y'all have any suggestions on how to keep them on the hook? I was just tightening up on the bass when setting the hook. Should I set the hook harder?
