New Trout Magnet for me but a standard for Alphahawk

Went to the Caney yesterday since no generation from 1200 1700. Went to Buffalo Valley and went down the Boy Scout trail to the steps around 1300.Started fishing near steps using white TM and had a few hits as I did on Tuesday.Decided to use Pink and did much better. After catching around 10 pretty nice Rainbows the catching turned off. With that I noticed some fellow fishermen had gone further down river and with that I felt safe to do the same.(When by myself I will not go where I could have a difficulty). Started fishing a spot where the water is around 5-6' deep. Started fishing my old stand-by,white. Nothing.The water was moving very slowly because there was no sleucing. Jeff with Trout Magnet will tell you that with fast water use bright colors and slow water ,darker colors.With that I decided to use the color Alphahawk uses all the time,Bison( back/gold) and I do not.First cast,nice RB. Well,over the next hour,standing in one spot, I got 19 RB's in the net.Missed another 5-6.After this I decided to get out of water at least 30 minutes before generation.Safety. Went to Happy Hollow and see how it looked there.Have not been there in some time.Very first cast there with a Bison TM I caught the biggest fish all day,around 20-22" and only Brown.I went home after that.Could not get any better.
Spoke with a LEO from Rutherford County, who I got to use TM recently, who had gone to the Duck yesterday. He and his son caught around 55 trout using Bison TM's.
If you are a TM user,better get you some Bison colored TM's.Also,I was using black jig heads and a slip knot.

Bobber.I use a bobber which I get from TM.I started trying the slip knot after meeting a gentleman in Memphis who was giving a talk on TM's and CM's at the outdoor show In February and he recommended it. Also,Alphahawk did the same.I really believe the TM has more natural action when you use it. I also re-tie after every fifth catch.

Interesting, why do you think the TM has better action? Falls slower through the bobber?

Even though the loop knot has been around for years I have never used it until now. I know a lot of Float'N Fly guys use a loop knot for more action with the jig. There are several ways to tie it but when using light line some of those ways don't work out too good for knot strength. I am still trying to figure out the method I want to use. The main school of thought fishing for any specie with this knot is more action. Then it gets specie specific. With crappie the theory is you will miss less fish as the hook will be hanging down and you get them in the roof of the mouth......same with trout. I catch a lot of Gills but miss a lot too...so am assuming this knot will do the same with them. Since being laid up I have been watching every fishing show I can. On a show featuring "Mr. Crappie".....Wally Marshall.....he made a statement about the loop knot that I find hard to believe....or at the least confuses me. He uses the knot with jigs and he said it lets the jig fall more horizontally. Maybe he misspoke...I don't know. But everything I ever read always talked about the clinch knot being tightened up to the eye of the jig to help get a more horizontal fall. I am going to use the loop knot and see if I get a better hook up rate. I do know when using a palomar knot with the TM I lose a lot of Gills by not getting a good hook set. Maybe this knot will help that. Even when I catch a 100 of them in a day I will pull the hook out of maybe 20 or so....I don't like to lose any fish. As for trout if I have caught a 100 in a day I have missed a 100 also. So am excited to get on the Caney and try it out there. Time will tell for me if this knot results in more hookups.

Now I understand. You were talking about the knot you tie the jig on with. When I heard "slip knot". I think of the little tie that goes on the line to set the depth while using a slip bobber.

I have started using the loop knot more too. Having tried several ways this is what I have settled on and its pretty simple: Surgeon's Loop

Then just pull it down to a small loop as you can make it.

All the other's Duncans, Rapala and Nonslip seem to be way more complicated but break about the same. I want something quick and simple to tie even in low light or rain that doesn't frustrate me.

I have started using this on my jigs with swimbaits and flukes and I really think it helps. I have not tried with the TM yet. Looks like I should try!

Hmmm that looks interesting and pretty easy to tie. That overhand knot doesn't act as a weak point?

Really anywhere between those points you'll be able to catch trout. If the generation doesn't ruin it im going to try and go this weekend.

"Brad's" looks pretty promising..Way down deep in the tackle box I keep some STORM "hot-n-tots" 2inch size.;) They have to be ordered online unless you go north or maybe west. Black-gold is always the ticket on the Caney for me.

Just left big rock they had 2 spools of 6# sos. They are in the process of moving the tackle in to the dining room so they haven't restocked as much yet.

The storm hot-n-tots been a pretty popular lure for walled up north the past few years. My brother lives trolling them on lake winnebago.
