The new 1000 acre Carroll county Lake opens today for fishing over by Huntingdon TN. I hope to get over there soon to fish it. I have always wanted to fish a lake after it's first opening. I am not sure the fish have had time to grow to full size as I think it was only stocked 3 years ago. Most TWRA lakes go five years before opening...but this is owned by the county but fish wise is managed by TWRA. It would be a 100 mile one way trip for me...but it will supposedly be a fish every cast for a few months anyway. Looks like a great place for a kayak.

I wish. I do have some of those days but I still can get skunked. Just always wanted to be in on the opening of a new lake. Even though the bass in there are probably not trophy size yet I bet one could have a ball with UL gear.

I fished Lake Graham when it first opened in 1982 and Gibson Co lake when it opened in 2001???? and it is true about the fish nearly every cast. Charlie Ingrams "Fishing University" shot a show in what looked to be last Oct. on the new Carroll co lake and they were catching bass like crazy in the 2lb range. Might be worth a trip. It's only about 20 miles from me so I plan to hit it before to long just to check it out.

Randy, what's this with the shots and drain stuff ... The wife hit her 2 month replacement last Sunday ... My B-Day the 17th ... ... Swelling seems to be receding ... And yea ice packs but we are moving along ... I had Knee surgery 17 years ago ... big time recovery ... But no drainage was needed afterwards ... What is going on ... Sounds strange ... This is on my other knee....my real knee...LOL. It has taken a beating bearing the brunt of the weight while I have been recovering. My new knee is doing fine. I have some swelling at end of the day after using it but I ice and it is gone by the next morning and I start over. My physical therapist was laughing the other morning when I walked into PT as he watched me walk he said "Dang Randy your new knee is doing good...you are limping on your other knee". It will make it to December and will probably have to be replaced also. Thanks for your concern.

TWRA site says this lake is 100 acres. Is it 100 or 1000?

There are two lakes there...one is a TWRA Lake and the new 1000 acre lake is NOT a TWRA Lake. They just took care of stocking it and managing the fishery. The new lake is owned by the county. There is a small daily fee and you can buy a yearly permit...but again.....it is not a TWRA Lake.

This is going to be an awesome fishery in another year or two. Caught 150 or so bass in 6 hours this morning. Lake is loaded with BIG bluegills also. My bass ran from 8 ounces up to 3 1/2 lbs. 1 lb being average but extremely hard fighters especially for 51 degree water. This may become my favorite local lake. Will post video link as soon as it finishes uploading.

Limits on fish there: Bass only 2 fish over 18 inches may be kept, Crappie 30 fish over 10 inches, Bream/Redears 20 in combination no size limit, Channel/Blue cats 5 in combination no size limit.
Annual lake permit is $25 for Carroll Co residents, $30 for others but it also covers one quest!!!! Never seen that one before but it is a great idea.

Yes to all and bigger. I didn't see any redears but I would imagine they are very large in this lake. Buddy of mine was spider rigging for crappie and couldn't catch any because of the bream and bass. Bream were wearing his jigs and minnows out.
