The Tennessean and all of the T.V. Newsrooms carried the latest salvo in the USACE v. the People last night. It’s interesting, in that while our updates were coming from Senator Alexander’s office, and we watched his introduction speech on C-span, three of our T.V. stations ran the AP release. In that release, it says the Senator McConnell actually filed the bill. Assuming the accuracy, I think that’s a great thing. The more co-sponsors that a bill carries, the broader the credibility.
This could be over as early as Monday, after the meeting with the ASA, Ms. Darcy. She has an environmental / conservation working history. It will be interesting to see if she is willing to engage the matter in her role as the civilian authority - seeing the senators and congressmen as the peoples representatives – finds some reason to support the Corps - or just doesn’t have the juice to stop them (which should not be the case).
Speculation aside, I’ll be sending my opinion to ASA Darcy, via email: ASACWPOC@conus.army.mil I hope you you’ll encourage your followers to do the same, so that she has earful prior to her meeting with the legislators. I recommend that she be addressed with the respectful honorifics due her position, e.g., The Honorable Jo-Ellen Darcy – Dear Ms. Darcy. It’s already Friday. Lets get folks from both states to crank up the volume to Ms. Darcy, and let her know how much we’d appreciate her direct intervention in an overwhelmingly unwanted project.
