I read where you can purchase them online and have a copy on your smart phone and just show that to the TWRA. I would hate for my phone to have no bars when they pulled up to me..haha

Get your new license, take a photo of it with your phone. If you have your phone, you'll have your license with you.
I do this with my boarding passes when I travel. I just scan my phone's photo at the boarding gate and don't have to worry about the paper boarding pass. I mean, we all know where our phone is all the time, right?
I kind of startled some of Delta's gate personnel. Apparently they hadn't seen it done before and didn't realize it was possible. But it worked every time in every airport. Nashville, Atlanta, Florida, Stuttgart, Germany, Munich, Germany, Amsterdam, and Heathrow in England.

I asked a GW about this. He said you must have your license on you, not just a photocopy. Same for Hunters Safety card.

I bought mine with my phone and it says right on the TWRA site, the image it sends you on your phone is your license to show them. Picture is all I need.

I picked up mine at Walmart. Is there a way to get it to my phone from TWRA?
That would be handy for overnight camping/fishing trips.

When I first moved here, I had no idea that the license expires the last day of Feb. In Florida it's a year from the date of purchase (which makes a whole lot more sense than the rule here) and I just assumed it was like that in every state because, again, it makes sense to do it that way.

So I moved here in August, bought a license, got stopped in April by a TWRA guy. I had been living in TN for less than a year and figured I was fine, wrong. I begged and pleaded with the guy and told him it was an honest mistake and that I just moved here and was unaware. He showed me no mercy and wrote me a 200 dollar fine which I think is a bit overkill.

Don't get caught without your license!!

I hold yearly license's in several states Tennessee, Alabama, Florida (salt and fresh) Indiana, and Georgia. It's tough keeping them all straight. It would be nice to be able to purchase a national license, but I know that the money for a license goes to that state.

Most of the other states game and fish are bureaucracies... ours .. thank God is an Agency ... 100% goes back to benefit the Tennessee Outdoorsman ... <'TK><

Coming from Georgia where my license expired a year from when i purchased it, its quite a bit different here.

Also, i was hoping to get my resident license after getting my TN drivers license, but they make you wait 90 days. Looks like i will be paying $80 for a NR all species.

Another thing i noticed when talking to a guy at Walmart while trying to purchase a resident license(and failing), is that there is not just a yearly fishing license for residents. Its a sportsman's license. Hunting and fishing. Its not a big deal, but i dont hunt.

It's a hunt fish combo for only $28. Which is near the cost of most annual fishing licenses in other states isn't it?

Georgia Resident fishing is $9 and trout stamp is $5, so right at half.

Wait a minute, its another $18 per year for trout, so $46 for Resident TN hunt/fish/trout.

Its all good though. I would pay near about anything to be able to fish!

I paid my $83 for NR all species fishing and am good to go for a year.

I was thinking about the cost of TN resident liscense vs other states, this is what I came up with the states I am familier wtih.

TN $28 + $18 trout = $46
TX $30 (includes trout)
OK $25
Ark $10.50 + $5 trout = $15.50
Ky $20 + $10 trout = $30

I am always happy to but a liscense as I believe the money goes directly to promoting the outdoors and stocking, etc but why is TN so much higher than other states? When my 80 year old Dad comes to visit why does he have to buy a nonresident liscense? its not so much the money as getting the liscense the day before an early morning trip the next day, shouldn't everyone over 70 or so be exempt, regardless of residence? what do you all think?

Its not terribly higher. KYs is $30 and ours is $28 for hunt fish combo. A GA license for annual hunt/fish combo is $17 but the places where you buy them charge an agent fee of $3 to purchase it which ours don't. SC it's $25 for the annual combo. I have never thought much about TN being incredibly high.

Your issue on the dad coming in was something addressed I believe last year by TWRA centered around visiting trout fishermen. Before you "had" to purchase a $18 trout stamp regardless of fishing just one day for them or year. That left a lot of business at the door for them by out of stater's who were in town and some that lived here. Now they have a resident/non-resident license option type 23/type 83 one day all species for $11 (res) and $16 (non).

I'll turn 65 on March 18th, plus I'm a veteran. Guess I'll start fishing for free NEXT year. Didn't want to not fish for 18 days plus the money goes to our TWRA, an agency that I fully support.

If you buy a nr one day or whatever the minimum is you can tell them when you want it to be valid. Every great once in awhile my girlfriend will go with me. I buy a resident one day fishing license and tell them to start the clock on it the next day.

thanks for the tips on the one day non-resident and the one day resident...i think my wife went twice last year and we bought her an annual..like I said I am all for supporting the TWRA..I am thinking about our states competitiveness..we compete for business, jobs, education, etc I think fees and liscenses are another area to be competitive on. thanks again.

TK, I cannot agree more with this statement! and I appreciate your service and every men and women who has served and currently serves on the armed forces (several on this site too), being here for 13 years makes me recognize and appreciate the sacrifice that so many have done so we all can enjoy this way of life, for someone who has seen both the good and the bad I'm certainly blessed to live here and enjoy al these freedoms, on the license issue as some others have mentioned I know TN was some higher prices than the surrounding states but I'm glad to pay $136.00 for an all inclusive hunt and fish sportsman license, TWRA makes the most of this moneyso I'm headed to Handy Dandy store to get new license!!

Why would you wait for spring like weather, was on the Cumberland River today and got my moneys worth for my license already today....caught white bass 50-60 (kept 11 over 2 lbs each), small mouth 2 @ 3lbs each, 3 decent large mouth(threw the bass back), 2 keeper crappie (probably 15+ small ones),a 17 1/2 walleye and a small channel catfish.....

If you really wanted to break it down, that's less than 8 cents a day for access to a 24hr fish market and daylight to dark wild game within season.

Go to Kroger for that a day to feed a family.

I don't always keep fish for food but if you teach a person how to fish/hunt and manage a small garden then they'll have a hard time going hungry regardless of the economy.
