Jigging in the channel? Holes, creek mouths, or some other? Just curious, those are the areas I was fishing on Old Hick before work got in the way. Was catching some sauger here and there.

7 1/2 hours.....two guys.....12 fish......four keepers. Doesn't make me want to drive 82 miles to fish Cordell Hull just yet. Fished Old Hickory below the dam for a few hours yesterday.....two white bass....two short saugers....two bluegill. Slow day.
Fished Old Hickory lake today for a coupla hours, more or less just starting to learn the lake. Four keeper crappie and five non keeper bass. A fun coupla hours this afternoon.

My New Year's resolution.....learn Old Hickory lake. I fished JPP for the last couple of years. JPP is 45 minutes away. Rockland launch is 8 minutes away. Time to scout out and investigate OH lake.

Using my Humminbird 997 cSI, I should be able to locate a lot of brush, downed trees, etc. that will hold crappie. I did locate one today. First cast on it pulled out a 12 inch crappie. 30 minutes= 4 keepers. So, off to a good start. I'll be hittin it hard from now til spring.

White, the biggest thing in sauger fishing, is to be there when they are! And that's the tough part.
gboyce and I went sauger fishing earlier (back in November) and caught 18 sauger and only boated four keepers. We have been back to the same place a dozen times now and some days catch no keepers, no saugers, one or two with no keepers, two or three keepers and no shorts. It's a crap shoot with those fish! If you have a place near you to fish for them, good for you. The places near me seem to have very limited sauger action so I have to drive 45 minutes or more to get anywhere decent, then HOPE I can catch a couple/few/some to take home for dinner.
There isn't a long learning curve to catching them, just a long learning curve to FINDING them. I'd love to find them "stacked up" someday, but it hasn't happened in the two years I've been fishing for them. I can always hope......and keep looking.
