Work cutting us loose at noon…thinking about getting the kayak out for the second time! I can’t decide between Cages Bend or Station Camp. Which location is more "kayak friendly" and what species (LMB or crappie) would I have the most success with today (and possibly tomorrow)?
Now that my son’s football season and my daughter’s soccer season is over I have time to get away and catch some fish!

I'm not too familiar with cages, but station camp should have a decent white bass bite right now. The ramp near the Douglas bend/gallatin pike intersection is a good ramp, and you should be able to find fish near the bridge. The downside is that the ramp is popular and can get crowded. Another option is the ramp near lock 4 park. You can find fish just about anywhere, but my best luck has been at the point across the creek from the ramp. You have two creeks joining up a short distance from the river channel and docks, bluffs, flats, points, and grass in a fairly confined area. The gallatin marina is nearby, so there is some boat traffic, but it's not too troublesome since you can see/hear the boats from a good distance. Bass, whites, and crappie are in the area, so bring gear from ultralight to normal bass tackle. Hot lures will be shad imitators from 1.5"-3" in length. Good luck.

When the whites are schooling minnows they can be found around by that fishing dock (not by the ramp) at Cages. Crappie and gills can be caught too. Look for wood in the water under the big tree plus there are some stumps straight out from the pier. Bass always hang in the flat out from the point on the campground side as well along the deep water edge.
Dad's in Station Camp now fishing so I won't know how it is until he gets back. He's looking for crappie.
