Anyone catching any on Old Hickory lately?

I haven't fished it in a while and depending on what the Caney is doing may just save gas to head there Saturday night.

Water temp on Corps site is 60 degrees. Trying to figure out where they may be and if still chasing bait schools hard.

Thanks.

Bait was still being chased as of last Sunday, and I got some reports of schooling activity in cedar creek in mt Juliet. With this warmer weather, I think the bite will be shallow this weekend, especially in the backs of creeks.

Just got back from there. I caught 6 but only 2 keepers. It was much tougher than my last report. We had 4 keeper stripe and a couple short ones with the keepers ranging from 20-24" and caught lots of skipjack in the steam plant but it was much tougher today. Fog was terrible this morning had to drive by the GPS from 6 til almost 8.

I went out Saturday for a few hours with my boy. We caught two bass up shallow real quickly. They were feeding on shad. We then made a campfire and cooked the bass and played around on shore for a few hours. Great fun.

On the way home I hit the spot again and caught 8 more. Biggest was 17 inches. Rattletraps and spinnerbaits were best. A little slower than the weekend before but the bass were in similar areas, shallow feeding on shad.

Water temp was 54 so I think it will be 50 or 51 this weekend after the cold nights.

Saw the stripers on the depthfinder but didn't fish for them. I have a friend out fishing for them today. Hopefully he catches them.

Good luck,
Jim

Does GSP fish okay at night? Would it be worth a trip?

I can't really decide on what I am going to do yet but with water that cold and only being able to get out at night this weekend Old Hickory may be one tough cookie unless its at the steam plant.

The generation is cutting off an hour earlier than yesterday which still may leaving the Caney open but if I can get it off a couple hours earlier then that will be a definite again.

The steam plant fishes great at night. It is protected from the wind and has lights up near the plant. You will still need lights to see on your boat, but it is easy to see what is happening around you without lights. Away from the steam plant it can get very dark. But no different from the rest of the lake.

It is also a lot less crowded after dark, but usually there will be a few other boats until 9 or 10 pm.

Trolling motor quit on me (I'm hoping it is just a blown fuse back at the batteries because I still had thirty six volts back there and the batteries were fully charged.) before I got started so I didn't really get to fish. But I got nothing and neither did another boat that was there for the same time frame I was.

I only stayed about 30 minutes. They had two generators running so there was a good current and I had no control other than the outboard so I left.

Mine on the big boat kicks the small block fuse that runs off the pos terminal from time to time. Its a 12/24 setup and I will get on the water but only have 12 volts running. Usually it comes back to that and I have to push the small reset back into the fuse block then its good to go.
