Thanks for the heads up, doesn't look like a bad drive from Murfreesboro, so I might have to check out the area soon. Never been, so time to do some map scouting. :)

Great place to fish for stocker trout. It has deep pools.....riffles. Lots of trout are put there.

I was in Manchester the other day and decided to head over below Normandy. I was surprised how small the dam was. Didnt appear much was going on?? One car was there and that was it? I gyess I was expecting the Old Hickory dam.

You would be surprised what is caught in that small stretch of river below the dam. The stocker trout of course......I have caught the Spotted bass run in the spring there.....one can catch 50 to 75 Spots a day. I have been told the same thing happens with the Small Mouth.....but I have not been there to see it. It is a good place for walleye in the Spring......and while I have never caught any numbers of crappie there I have caught 3 Black Nose.....at different times......each went close to the 3 pound mark. Black Perch are there and last Spring got into some decent Gills......although it has been rare for me to catch big Gills there....oh.....and there are Sauger and Saugeye there also.

Alphahawk, is the name "black perch" an anomaly of the south or is it a fish I have no knowledge of.

I Googled black perch and I didn't see anything that would pertain to them being indigenous to TN. Here's a copy/paste of their locale.....
Geographic Distribution

Fort Bragg in northern California to central Baja California. More commonly central California to Baja California, Mexico.

Black perch is a nickname for a rock bass. I've only heard it here in the south. Another nickname is redeye.

I never really thought about calling them Black Perch. I have heard them called that since I was a boy. It may be just a southern term. But Rock Bass I guess wold be the name proper. A good eating fish.

Only place I have heard of black perch is the Duck River area from lots and lots of locals. A few even use pond perch (bluegill) and river perch (long ear sunfish).

We have always called them "red eye" fishing the creeks but have heard them called black perch, goggle eye perch and of course rock bass.

The last time on the Caney I caught a few good ones on trout magnets.

Some of the biggest ones I have ever seen caught were from the Cumberland below OHD.

I have caught 2 at 12 inches.....one from Normandy....which I think I posted on here, and one from Center Hill. It is times like that you need Mnfisher with you to get good pic.....a pic to put on the wall.

I am talking below the dam. I have never caught any Smallies to talk about there...but know guys who were there on those 50 fish days. One guy caught 60 Smallies on a fly rod there. I have caught over 60 Spots in one day there...and on consecutive days. They had to be coming upstream to spawn...I think. I have had saugeye many times from there for supper. Keep in mind my son and I have no clue how to fish for walleyes but am including some pics of fish we have caught there....so if we knew how to fish for them no telling what we could do....all the walleye were between 21 and 23 inches. I have personally seen a 6 pound walleye caught below the dam. They are in there...no doubt.

Awsome!!!, I think i can save the trip to Center Hill for the 'eyes, Normandy does have some big Crappies!!, I also have no clue as to how to fish for them Walleyes specially in such a small tailwater, but i think the trout or Crappie magnet could do some damage here, I love them pics as always!!, did you fish from the bank here or used them kayaks??, once again thanks for the info!!

I wade fish there....when my knees let me...but the best way to fish it is from a kayak.....IMHO. You can paddle right up to the dam and let the kayak rest in the rocks on the left side of the dam and cast into the water coming out of the catch basin. With the water flowing at 100 to 200 CFS you can go down stream and then paddle back up. It is just a neat place to fish for me. It is only a 45 mile drive for me and I love catching the stocker trout on the ultra light. You can catch plenty of trout in the winter but you can also get a surprise fish every so often. Fishing there from March through June can be very exciting.

A father and son canoed passed me today. The whole stretch to Cortners Mill is prime fishing. But in spring I stay away from Cortners Mill.....too many snakes there for me.

I agree with all the snakes at Cortner's, it is not uncommon to count a dozen of them in early Summer although the Trout fishing can be really good up until early June!!
