This guy watched me for a couple of hours last Saturday on Old Hickory. Laying on the dock sunning. Is it just a water snake? Thanks

Its a Northern Water Snake some folks call them Red Rat Snakes.
They are not poisonous but are aggressive and can cop an attitude fairly fast.

I have some snapshots of one big northern water snake trying to eat a 9 inch crappie. If I can find if i'll try scanning and posting the picture. I took it at Laurel Hill Lake many years ago. I sent it to Jimmy Holt on TN Outdoors but the pic was to dark to show up on camera. He killed the crappie but it was to big for him to eat.

I can't tell from the pic. Next time get a good macro shot and I'll be glad to ID it... :D

Travis, wind was blowing 90MPH, trying to keep the boat in a position to cast and I here a noise beside me, whoa dude let me move back a little, no close ups even if he wasn't poisonous.

I was walking out of my house the other night in down in Brentwood (just moved so that's why I couldn't attend the gathering) and this thing was on my door step (scared the crap out of me as well). A couple of people have told me it was a northern water snake, but my issue is with the fact that there's no water around my house. Is this guy just lost??

but we don't have any chickens either!!! regardless, a snake is a snake to me. I don't care if it's a chicken snake or an anaconda...i choose to stay away from them!!
